Muggings around Syon Estate

I spoke to my neighbour today and it appears that there have been some muggings late at night on the Syon Estate.Has anyone else heard about this? Is it true?

I have now spoken to Sgt Murphy who leads our SNT and he has checken with his team and none of them know anything about a mugging.  This is the trouble with rumour - it is more frightening than the real thing.Regarding the hours of patrol, I know that Sgt Murphy is always keen to be more effective and that he will report this observation to his superiors.

Jon,If you are going to speak to the snt could you please suggest to them that,although the cpo patrols I see in the middle of the day are welcome,could we please have some patrols,by cpo's or by bobbies,at NIGHT when the crimes are more likely to happen?The scum who go about mugging people are probably still in bed when the cpo's currently do their rounds in the middle of the day.If I was a fisherman and I knew that there were fish in a certain area of the sea at a certain time,I wouldn't go there to fish 6 hours later then wonder why I've come home with an empty net,if you can understand the analogy.

Dear Both,I have not heard about this but I will check with the Safer Neighbourhood Team about this.  It is obviously important to get a proper steer on this as (if I may be so hackneyed) it is often the fear of crime that is more damaging to an area than crime itself.Certainly the reports we have had at Monitoring have been positive showing a reduction in crimes against the person if only because of the more visible police presence in the area.  More than that, having area specific teams has meant that the officers build up not only a knowledge about the area but also an expertise in dealing with different perps.  This should be no suprise really as the SNTs are simply a return to the 'bobby on the beat' concept that was so ignored in favour of more 'glamourous' options for too long: who says local people don't know what they need?I will raise the mugging matter at the SNT AGM tomorrow.  I would also like to make people aware that the Police will be making a report on their activities at the next IBAC (Isleworth and Brentofrd Area Committee) Monitoring meeting at 7:30 on the 5th March at Brentofrd Free Church: this is an open foru so it will be possible for memebers of the public to pose questions to Inspector Earle who is reporting on behalf of the Met.CheersCllr Jon HardyThe
