A great  St Georges Day to all... but beware

Whilst wishing everyone a great St Georges day, please be aware the Eurocrats would like nothing better than to replace one of the few remaining opportunities to celebrate our Englishness by doing away with our national day and replacing it with a Europe day.You will be aware that the Euro elections will soon be with us and I would ask Englishmen and women to give careful consideration to any party committed to protecting our heritage and traditions before England is broken up and we become just an numbered area in Greater Europe.

Phil, I dont really know what the BNPs views are as I've not taken that much interest in them. But I do believe the issue of the very heavy level of immigration should be addressed as it of serious concern to many (myself included) and as I see it the main parties either encourage it or look the other way, so if it has to be the BNP who bring attention to this issues, so be it.

Jon, For some people (myself included) the recent level of immigration is a problem. The other parties sweep the matter under the carpet and one has to be very careful in what one says for fear of being denounced a racist by the liberal loonies who have crept into every facet of management (see Carol Thatcher) so it comes as no surprise that when a party is prepared to discuss the matter openly a certain section of the community will be attracted.

HarleyI'm glad you enjoyed the event in Kingston, whether or not this annual event relates directly to St. George's Day is unclear from your comments but if it does so much the better.  I am on record as saying that I believe our national day should be celebrated.The comment about the BNP was induced by several recent postings by yourself, on this and other threads, which seemed to suggest that you shared its views on many issues.  Maybe you were just being mischievous.  Nevertheless I do think there is some value in consigning to record, in the run-up to the Euro Elections, that this party has now effectively admitted that the racial basis for its policy programme is as strong today as it has always been.

Phil, I don’t get the question: The event I was referring to is the annual beer Festival and exhibition of Morris Dancing at the Willoughby Arms, and I can’t see what that has to do with the BNP. If interested though I can assure you that by the end of the evening the community were well and truly cohesed!I don’t follow what Nick Griffin says, but that statement above is of course pure unadulterated cobblers. However, like a lot of folk I am concerned at the dangerously high levels of immigration this country has been made to endure and as the BNP are the only party addressing this ‘Elephant in the room’ I wont be surprised if they do well in the upcoming election.FYI the Beer festival lasts all weekend – and if interested the Morris Men Rocked :-)

Harley,The BNP does not ADDRESS real issues in the sense of providing a real solution to them: the issues may be real but they just use them and people's anxieties about them to further their own narrow agenda.

Of course the BNP address real issues. Just because it doesn’t chime with your opinions it doesn’t mean the issues aren’t real. To the ‘simple’ people who voted for them, these are the real issues. I have an obligation to follow my conscience – irrespective who’s opinion it happens to coincide with.I am fully aware of the history of St George. As it happens, to the majority of those who celebrate the day St. George is a fantasy - it doesn’t matter if he were an alien from the planet Zog – it’s just a point around which English people can rally.

"If the BNP do hit their targets it will probably be because they address the issues about which the other parties daren't or choose not to speak."That is a very dangerous view: it suggests that you think the BNP actually address real issues whereas the truth of the matter is that they play on the anxieties of people, fuel them with lies and half-truths and seem to be offering simple solutions to very complex problems. Just like the 1930s in Germany.These are difficult times: they are fertile fields in which  can racism can take hold. We all have an obligation not to give any credence to the policies of hate spun by the BNP.(For the record, St George was most likely a Greek Cypriot and a soldier in the Roman army who was tortured and executed for his beliefs: now that I think is a much better metaphor for an English saint than the usual dragon fantasy.)

Phil,I share your disinterest with European politics, unfortunately however the Europeans have an interest in our politics and an unhealthy and sinister interest it is too.You ask me if I will be attending an event in Hounslow, organised with a view to exploring ways in which hard-to-reach groups can be helped to engage and participate in activities on our social housing estates, thereby enhancing community cohesion. No.I will however be attending an event in Kingston, organised with a view to exploring ways in which everyone is invited to engage and participate in cultural activities of the country in which they were born or chose to live, thereby enhancing community cohesion. HarleySpeaking personally I'm not really that interested in European politics and will be happy to sit this particular election out in front of the television with a tinny while all the politicals are busy door-knocking and campaigning.  I shall vote on the day as under the PR system used every vote, whoever it is cast for, plays a role in keeping extremist candidates out.  There is no such thing as a wasted vote, every vote cast for the Monster Raving Loony Party or the Sunday Sport Party makes it harder for the BNP to hit its required percentage.On St. George's Day itself I will be at an event in Hounslow, organised with a view to exploring ways in which hard-to-reach groups can be helped to engage and participate in activities on our social housing estates, thereby enhancing community cohesion.  Whilst it is a coincidence that it is being held on St. George's Day, the choice of date does provide us with an opportunity to the consider the value of resurrecting our national day as a celebration of England as it is today, culturally diverse but built upon shared values and a common humanity.Will you be there?
