Another 1p on a pint.

With pubs closing at an alarming rate why does the governmennt keep slapping tax onto beer. The rise over the last few years has been huge. In Brentford the Bricklayers and Royal Horseguardsman have gone and rumours are spreading about a couple of other pubs facing closure.

Taxing beer gives governments of any hue an opportunity to screw more money out of us whilst reassuring us that they are really doing us a favour.

Can anyone remember a budget from either political party that did not put up tax on cigarettes and alcohol?  We are led to believe that we should stopsmoking and rinking but where would the government get all that revenue if not from fags and booze?The nanny state tells us that they want us to live forever so stop smoking and drinking etc., then bemoans the fact that there are so many pensioners draining the coffers of the state.  I believe someone should devise a reward system for drinkers and smokers, they pay more taxes than everyone else and die younger.
