VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Brentford High Street Christmas Lights Fundraising Evening (Thurs 24 Sept)
Dear AllSyon Park have kindly agreed to host the Brentford High Street Christmas Lights Fundraising Evening on Thurs 24 Sept at The Great Conservatory.Julia Quilliam (who leads on this project for the High Street Steering Group) has met with Professor Chris Birch, Pro Vice-CHancellor and Director of the Strategic Business Enterprise Unit at Thames Valley University. The Professor is very interested in our event and is keen for the University to be involved although it will be the very start of the new term year. They can hopefully provide a string quartet from their music department and also take control of the catering (fantastic!). As long as there are possible future employers at the event he may be able to justify covering some of the costs including food which is very kind. Between us and the Chamber of Commerce we know lots of key employers in Brentford so it shouldn't be a problem. The non existance of kitchen facilities at the Great Conservatory meanns choosing a menu is a challenge in respect of heating, serving etc also crockery, cutlery supplies. Prof Birch suggested a good quality buffet and good disposable plates. We can probably get the champagne/ wine and glasses from Majestic or a local independent retailer. We can have lots of candles in the conservatory which will create a magical atmostphere and we can do our own table flower/plant decorations. Along with a string quartet or similar a lack china plates and hot food will not be a problem. We might be able to do some hot food, just waiting now to hear back from TVU. Julia is now going to check out table and chair hire and a few other bits to get an idea of costing. A figure of £35 was suggested at the last High Street Meeting for tickets. We need a florist who might be willing to teach us how to do some effective yet inexpensive table decorations. Julia is quite happy to give it a go. Does anyone know someone local? We could then sell off the table displays. We also need to start asking local firms and residents for donations for the auction and raffle. What Julia needs now are *volunteers* to help with the above issues and marketing the event. Please contact Julia directly (julia@quilliam-property.co.uk) if you can help with what should be a fabulous event, which is also so important to ensure that we can maintain Brentford's Christmas lights. Many thanks and best wishesAndrewCouncillor for Brentford WardChair, Brentford High Street Steering Group
