I walked in to find they are not continuing to provide Home Delivery so I walked out again. It has been pointed out to them and they will think about it.People were queuing to get in, apparently from well before 9am. Staff were lining up at the front door to greet everyone with flyers with the shop's layout on.

The folks are back and don't appear particularly awe-struck.  It's a supermarket after all.  Not quite sure what those queuing in the morning were expecting.

Maybe so, but as Phil says it's only a supermarket, so it's not like they were going to be offering once in a lifetime deals like a Playstation 3 for 50p or a £3000 TV for £50.Whilst 'every little helps' as one of Morrison's rivals might say, queuing for the opening of a relatively small convenience store does seem to be taking things abit far...

I have made the BIG mistake of being at Tescos to get something on my way to work when they open at 8.00.a.m. It is like a Le Mans trolley dash, people barge under the roller shutter as it's going up and woe betide you if you unthinkingly get in their way.It may only be a matter of time before someone cops it from OAP trolley rage! It is unbelievable and bloody dangerous, and I have to say it is mostly people of an age when they have probably got all the time in the world to shop. So there's nowt as queer as folk they say.

The hand-out with the store layout did make me laugh - its almost exactly the same layout as Somerfield had. Only really two changes - bakery & fishmonger at the back and they've moved the drinks to the middle.But the really good news is...more check-outs. No more 20 min wait like the staff of Somerfield wanted us to enjoy.

Most of the staff are from Summerfield’s, they have been working at the Acton store until the Brentford store opened. It's nice to see a company that’s kept the original staff employed

I passed in there during my lunch break for only 3 items and had a 20 minute wait to serve myself.  It was a nightmare never seen so many people crowded into a tiny store, some would think it wont be opening after the first day!!

Drove past the car park on my way home about an hour ago and couldn't believe how full the car park was.  Definitely nowt as queer as folk - it's just a little supermarket, can't understand the fuss.

I wonder how long all the tills will be open. Usual story is that, after a few days, it's the usual one or two open during the day.

Many thanks Sarah. Wow how the recycling bins have increased; there were only two last time I saw them in person - bottles and miscellaneous stuff. Hopefully Morrisons will be a better store than Summerfield. It is small though.

Was rather dissapointed to find Morrisons close at 8 for most of the week and just 9 on the busy 2 days. Smellyfields used to open till 10.With the train journey from Waterloo packed until after 8 most nights, and so many getting off at Brentford, can't help but think that Morrisons have missed this by closing so early.Once the novelty wears off - and it always does, they will miss these customers.

Michael - couldn't agree more. An 8pm close time seems excessively early by '09 standards. Even one extra hour would make a difference. I frequently work overseas and the chances of getting back to Brentford from a return flight from Europe before 8pm is low. So its back to phoning for a pizza I guess and no milk in the fridge in the morning.

Only a supermaket?  What's all the fuss?  How about it's the best thing to happen to Brentford in ages.  Really, it's a cracking store, bigger, better, cleaner, friendlier, fresher, more efficient, impressive range of produce - everything about it trumps the old Somerfield.  As a fairly new mum, and I know lots in Brentford, not having a supermarket in walking distance for the last 3 months has been really difficult, I almost missed Somerfield in fact.  And I have to say that the other general stores in Brentford didn't even rise to the challenge and take advantage of the potential extra custom.  Could you find any fresh fruit and veg, and I mean 'fresh and edible'?  More fool them because they are stuffed now.'Nout as queer as folk' indeed and there's absolutely no pleasing some of them ;)

Well yes it definitely trumps the old Somerfield, but I don't regard that as much of an achievement.  Don't wish to be pedantic (but I will be ;-)) but the store can't be any bigger as they haven't enlarged it.As for being the best thing to happen to Brentford in ages, that really isn't saying much for Brentford is it ?!.

Tell me what else has happened in Brentford that is positive since March for all us locals?

It's back to being as good as it was when it first opened as International stores.It was a good supermarket then with pretty much what Morrisons have put back.A fishmonger, butcher and deli counter albeit the Morrisons versions are smaller.Somerfields shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of the deli counter and putting a clothes shop inside a grocery store and cutting the quality and choice.It became hapless.But when the novelty and the loss leaders par down to that of other Morrisons and the shine fades on the newness of the refurbished fittings and fixtures, I wonder if Morrisons will manage to sustain the vibrancy that they have certainly brought to the place this week. I hope so.But more than that I hope they review the opening hours and stay open till 10 like Somerfields did.

The Brentford Village Fayre was a great success......a worthy and enjoyable event in the heart of the local community.And there's the Brentford Festival still to come.

Depends how you measure 'best thing'.If it is the greatest benefit to the most people - then looks like Morrisons is well up there. It is cheaper, better stocked and better customer service than Somerfields. Thus it benefits hundreds of people on a daily basis.The Bees success was laudible and excellent - but, really, it was only a one off benefit (ok, weekly during the new season but its still only div 1). And the war memorial - nice but not really a benefit. And the various festivals - great - but only annual. So my vote is with Morrisons - especially it means not going to Tesco's. Now that's a yukkie place.

Audrey - it's the same number of recycling bins that were there before, when it was Somerfields.I don't know why everyone was so down on Somerfields anyway. It did its job - although yes, I too missed the deli and thought the clothes section pretty pointless. Its staff did a good job too, given the resources available - Morrisons must also have thought they were good, as otherwise they would not have been re-employed in the new store!
