I was in a waiting-room today and the only suitable reading matter was a copy of the Independent about ?ten days old.It did contain the details of Alastair Darling's expenses, which I don't think I'd read before in detail.I wasn't particularly surprised by the extent of house-flipping and the irregularities of grace-and-favour residences, but, having read all this I was surprised that, after Gordon Brown's stuff about taking root and branch action etc. etc. Alastair had been reconfirmed as Chancellor after the reshuffle.Is there a date when the clean-up of politics is due to start ?
