Thames Water Works on Ealing Road start Monday 22 June

Update from the recent story on the front page:Thames Water Works on Ealing Road start Monday 22 JuneThe Thames Water works commence in Ealing Road on Monday 22 June for approximately eight weeks. From Monday morning, Ealing Road becomes one-way northbound, with all southbound traffic being diverted via South Ealing Road, Little Ealing Lane, Windmill Road and A4.Advance warning signs are in place. Thames Water has hand-delivered letters to local residents on or near Ealing Road and the diversion route.  Additional temporary waiting restrictions are in place on the south-west side of Windmill Road.  Restricting parking to one side of the road will allow the diverted traffic to flow more freely.During the works, London Buses are temporarily diverting bus route 65 southbound via Little Ealing Road, Windmill Road, Swyncombe Avenue and Boston Manor Road to make use of the bus lane on Boston Manor Road and avoid congestion on Windmill Road.  In order to cater for this diversion, additional waiting restrictions are in place on Swyncombe Avenue and the operating hours of the bus lane on Boston Manor Road have been changed to 7am-7pm Mon-Sun.  Hounslow Council has hand-delivered letters to affected local residents. London Buses will deploy a temporary bus stop at the northeast end of Swyncombe Ave (just after the Windmill Rd junction).A minor improvement to the Swyncombe Ave/ Boston Manor Road junction to facilitate left turning buses has been implemented.Diverted southbound route 65 buses will stop at all existing bus stops on Boston Manor Road between Swyncombe Ave and the A4 and at the eastbound stops on the A4 near Windmill Rd and York Parade.  If the York Parade stop becomes problematic (due to the buses having to then move into lane three to turn right at the Ealing Road roundabout), London Buses will close this stop to route 65 buses.Thames Water has been told that if the works are not complete by the time of the London Mela on the 16 August then the site is to be made safe and Ealing Road is to be opened up to two-way traffic for the weekend of the event.

I quite often see 65s wandering about in odd places; it's the bus for eccentric drivers, as opposed to the 267, which is for homicidal maniacs.

That was the explanation given to me when I called TFL on wednesday as my 65  went via Windmill and I had expected to conveniently go to GSK HQ for a meeting!

According to London Buses this is not true.Perhaps the bus Pat saw was out of service.

I understand the 65 drivers can use either route based on GPS info relayed to them by radio from the route controller. So if Windmill road is flowing OK they will use it.They can do this because there are not scheduled stops for the service on the diversion although they have been instructed to stop at all the stops on the diversions if requested to allow passengers to alight as near to their normal destination.

This morning (Friday) I saw a 65 bus going towards Brentford on Windmill Road.  Have they been re-routed down there rather than Swyncombe Avenue ?

The traffic signals were adjusted yesterday by TfL after an approach from the two boroughs, who are working closely together and with Thames Water and London Buses.Your suggested sites for additional waiting restrictions on South Ealing Road are in LB Ealing but I have passed them on to the relevant officer.Chris Calvi-FreemanHead of TransportLondon Borough of Hounslow

Biggest problem seems to be northbound on South Ealing road.I timed the green light on the Popes lane Jcn at just 5.5 seconds allowing just 2 cars or a bus through. ( I was on a 65 that took 45 mins from Albany Road to South Ealing Station at 11 am yesterday. There were 6 other 65's in view all stuck.)The Windmill road episode got fairly well sorted out after a bit of tweaking so hopefully the same will happen here. Banning parking on just the west side of South Ealing Road from the Ealing Park Tavern to the Popes lane junction and  the same to Temple road would make a huge difference.

It says 10 weeks to give a bit of leeway in case Thames Water runs slowly (no pun…) I’d strongly recommend giving the whole area  wide berth if you can possibly do so.

Doesn't it say ten weeks on the notices, Chris, rather than eight?I expected the SouthEaling/Popes Lane junction to be jammed yesterday but, if anything, it was quieter than usual.

No, they went up ages ago, but people just don’t read them.It’s not until they are caught in a complete jam (last night and this morning) that drivers begin to consider taking an alternative route.
