Hadn't heard of Godwin's law before, interesting. The style of the Wikipedia article is strangely familiar."I hearby (sic) find Dan Filson guilty under Godwin's law." What does being found guilty before being charged or having any chance to defence oneself remind me of, I wonder? I'm surprised you didn't get the piano wire out.Obviously any analogy to Nazi Germany might seem in poor taste since what has happened to the Keens is minor compared to what happened there. However it is a fact that the image did cross my mind, and my putting it down does seem to have forced at least one person to review their thoughts even if they remain unrepentant. Any new visitor to this Forum must be totally bemused at thread after thread bashing away at the Keens with hardly a word about national political issues or intelligent debate. This one alone has passed 130 posts. It has been said, and I have no reason to know if this is incorrect or true, that the Keens made no claims for mortgage etc payments in respect of the Brentford property. If they have been living in Brentford for 25+ years, it doesn't need the Keens to justify how they paid for it, but obviously an MP's salary (or in this case, two such salaries) is enough to pay for the tail end mortgage payments on a house such as this bought a ccuple of decades ago, and also to finance any improvement loan. It is, as I understand, the other home near Waterloo - neither is exactly a palace in size - that is the subject of the expenses claims. Whether they need two homes has been the subject of endless debate and clearly some people want their MP to come home, by 2 tubes and a long walk it seems, at midnight after the House has been sitting and after a day working as a minister, so as to avoid there being any second home. My own position is quite clear - I don't think the system should involve the public purse paying for the purchase or mortgage payments on a seocnd home, though I can see the case for a rent allowance for a second home. Arguably it would be better for the salary to be bigger so the MP simply chose what to do and footed it from their post-tax salary. But I suspect some form of financial support for second homes is going to continue. Now that's a rational exposition of my take on the issue. You can disagree with it if you wish. But what is grossly unpleasant is the glee with which people are gloating over the invasion of someone's home of many years by squatters, the picking over of whether they have a piano or pool etc. and what kind of furnishings etc they have or might have. She has put out an explanation of the causes for delay in the works being finished. Have any of the super-sleuths in the wolf pack bothered to see if it is the case that the builders are in liquidation? No, thought not. But no doubt you will claim it was her fault they went into liquidation. She probably is responsible for the collapse of world capitalism too, which is quite a feat.Robin leaps in a bit too vigorously at times, perhaps, but it must make him and a lot of other people fairly sick to see someone he/they respect being torn to pieces in the way a group on this Forum do. None of them LAbour Party members of current or recent standing, I understand. Saying you voted Labour in 1997 is not quite it, after all not many own up to voting for John Major, decent man though he was in many ways.

The facts are these:-(1) I did not post the comments you quote on the Guido Fawkes site. (I only use the pseudonym "Nuclear Naan" on that site).(2) It is not for me to condemn the said comments. In the 1990s, your mate Tom Reader accused me and the ANL of "fixing the car brakes" of our BNP opponents. (This was after Warren Glass's common law wife Cheryl Tompkin accused not us but Anti Fascist Action of performing this activity). When the ICG regard such smears as being part and parcel of legitimate debate they should not complain when others use similar tactics.(3) Your reference to me stoking up "disharmony" and "racial tension" in "your" community is another smear. If you were really interested in combatting these ills then one wonders why you do not ever take to task people like Andy Atkinson or Jim Lawes - both of whom are your political allies. They have used language that does no favours at all for the cause of community cohesion and harmony. In fact, on one occasion, when asked by Alan Sheerins to condemn inflammatory remarks made by Jim Lawes relating to "blackclad (Muslim) women running round as though the area had been invaded by a swarm of black ants" you instead rounded on Sheerins, describing his party as "miserable". You then exclaimed "Why should I disassociate myself from Jim's remarks? They are Jim's remarks, not mine". You will understand from these comments why it is that although the remarks made on the Guido Fawkes site are not ones I would ever make, I'm not going to pronounce a self-righteous (and meaningless) condemnation of them: not when you refuse to condemn the inflammatory remarks of some of your own supporters.(4) Facts and accuracy are important - even though I get lampooned by your colleagues for allegedly having a scrapbook of information so as to try and ensure that accuracy. Perhaps you would now, in the interests of accuracy, be willing to withdraw your allegation that Gerry Gable has a conviction for burglary. Investigations I made this morning show that he does not.I won't hold my breath waiting for a retraction.

"Phil Andrews blows his fuse because I bring up the issue of his far right background. But at least I stick to the facts: not from me will you ever hear any erroneous references to the alleged race of the police officer he was convicted of assaulting. But I get no thanks for sticking to the truth - just abuse for bringing up a serious and legitimate issue in the first place."Telling the truth counts for nothing in a borough which is dominated by politicians whose arts are those of smear and innuendo followed by a cheap and hollow (temporary) victory at the ballot box. And they now wonder why some of us intend giving them a taste of their own medicine."RobinI'm sorry mate, but only in your wildest dreams do I "blow a fuse" as a result of your constant bellyaching about events of two decades ago.  It is, after all, only you and a tiny handful of others who remain possessed of the weird notion that this acts as some kind of impediment to the ICG's progress.  Me, I look at the election results for 1998, 2002 and 2006 and chuckle about your dogged persistence with such an obviously counter-productive electoral strategy.  If the disharmony caused in my community as a consequence of your attempting to stoke up racial tensions which do not otherwise exist means as little to you now as it did on those occasions, then by all means try it again next year. And then, apparently, I'm supposed to be grateful that you don't venture into the realms of pure invention like your mate the liar Dan Filson (post-1991 meeting with Nick Griffin and Andrew Brons) and the "anti-racists" of Searchlight (conviction for racist assault on a black policeman).  Well yes, maybe you do, almost uniquely amongst your kind, have the wit to recognise that my past is appalling enough without having to embellish and that to do so jeopardises the credibility of that which remains.  I must take it from your comments then that you are not the coward who posted the following gems on the Guido Fawkes site yesterday under the cloak of anonymity, and look forward to your condemnation of the same:"It gets worse. The leading community group convicted thug is moaning about what may or may have not happened to his aged Father, despite admitting several attacks on blacks by himself. I really do pump purple p**s on this racist thug (convicted, bang to rights) pig. Over to you Fill (my coffers with allowances) Andrews.""I am glad that you agree with the comments about the convicted community group thug. Beat up a black guy, it doesn’t matter if he has a son.""I think you’ll also find the same Phil Andrews was a bodyguard for Oswald Mosley in the early 1960’s. There is a photograph somewhere of him on the plinth at a public rally in Trafalgar Square doing a nazi salute while Mosley is speaking."Sir O must have been taking a real chance facing all those hostile demonstrators under the protection of a guy in nappies! But it is your complaint that "the truth counts for nothing" which reveals you at your chutzpahing best.  Somebody famous once said that whilst politicians are wedded to the truth, like many married couples they sometimes live apart.  Nowhere was this more true than in Hounslow where the Deputy Leader of the Labour Group, Councillor Ruth Cadbury, declared during a debate on a motion to censure her Group for untruthful campaigning during a by-election contest: "You call it dishonesty, we call it politics."It is noteworthy that the same "it's politics" justification was given by you to excuse the Labour Party's dishonest claim on the eve of the Euro elections that the BNP could only be defeated by voting Labour, a claim which quite likely resulted in the BNP capturing two Euro seats by the very slenderest of margins as the Greens and the UKIP just failed to muster enough votes to keep them out.  It is a shame that your much-vaunted anti-racism and opposition to fascists did not extend to you offering us an apology on behalf of your party for this most catastrophic outcome to your party's unashamed strategy of lying to the electorate.Of course Ruth's comment as described above is sadly no longer available on webcast, however for our benefit she and her colleagues kindly repeated their performance during a similar debate at Borough Council on 23rd June this year when a motion was tabled deploring a recent claim on one of Ann Keen's leaflets circulated in her ward that the council had nearly £200m of PFI money "sitting in the bank" unused.  Nobody during the debate attempted to defend the comment, which was quite simply an outright lie (the money doesn't come on stream until 2011), and yet no apology was forthcoming although a sense of confusion as to why they were being criticised was evident all across the Labour benches.  But users of this forum shouldn't take my word for it, the whole debate is available on webcast at the link below - enter approximately 58 minutes into the debate.  Take a look and listen for yourself:http://www.hounslow.ukcouncil.net/site/player/pl_compact.php?a=27251&t=0&m=rmx&l=en_GBRobin, you are the spokesperson on this forum for a local party which openly avers that lying to potential voters is mere "politics" and is thus some way an acceptable mode of political engagement.  And yet, when the occasion demands, you insist that your observations and comments must be believed and you become indignant when they are not.  The story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf and the moral thereof is obviously completely lost on you guys.I am, as I always have been, happy to debate my personal political history with anybody who is prepared to consider the facts objectively rather than consistently looking for non-existent "links" with which to make a case that doesn't exist against other people, and invoking ever less tenable arguments (or in the case of your friend from Hammersmith outright fabrications) to sustain a wishful view of continued far-right activity.  One simply cannot debate such matters intelligently with someone who is always looking for an angle in pursuit of perceived party political advantage. What I am reluctant to do is to volunteer honest information which is then twisted, and in some cases lied about, in order to score a political point. As I've said before Robin, you need to decide whether your anti-racism is important enough to you to stand alone as a point of principle, or whether it is secondary to your tribal allegiance to the political party which you represent.  At present your willingness to spin and twist undermines the reputation you would otherwise deserve as a fine chronicler of far-right history in this borough.

But they really didn't push their expenses to the limit at all. As has already been stated, for six of the last seven years Ann claimed less in expenses than most other MPs. The same goes for Alan. Ann was towards the bottom of the list in terms of her claims under the notorious Additional Costs Allowance for the last financial year. She has failed to claim £15k in travel expenses that she could have claimed for had she wanted. We have heard accusations about food and communication bills being submitted for expenses - but the food was for unpaid interns and the communications leaflets contained contact details which enabled them to service the needs of their constituents. Are we SERIOUSLY suggesting that MPs should finance OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS the cost of running their offices, paying for staff and issuing their contact details to their constituents - and if so, how much, if anything, would be left out of a £64k salary - and who would then want to be an MP apart from the Mary Mac£eods of this world (somebody who has another lucrative career that can finance the prestige of having the letters "M" and "P" after her name?).We have been told by Andrew Dakers - always on the look out for a cheap Focus smear - that Ann opted for private health treatment. This has subsequently been found to be untrue, yet no apology is forthcoming. We are told by a group of middle class squatters (who probably have family homes to return to in Kensington or rural Surrey - plus the benefits of private health cover) that the Keens' Brentford home was paid for by other people's taxes. Again, completely untrue.Indeed, those who are conducting this vendetta (which is now disgusting many of those who previously opposed the Keens) have no respect for (or interest in) the truth. Phil Andrews blows his fuse because I bring up the issue of his far right background. But at least I stick to the facts: not from me will you ever hear any erroneous references to the alleged race of the police officer he was convicted of assaulting. But I get no thanks for sticking to the truth - just abuse for bringing up a serious and legitimate issue in the first place.Telling the truth counts for nothing in a borough which is dominated by politicians whose arts are those of smear and innuendo followed by a cheap and hollow (temporary) victory at the ballot box. And they now wonder why some of us intend giving them a taste of their own medicine. To return to the Keens, what is happening to them is also happening (to a greater or lesser extent) to most MPs throughout the country. (And here, by the way, is another hypocrisy: we are told that we mustn't make any reference to "other" MPs because we should only concern ourselves with the local one. Who sets this rule? The very councillors who used the allegedly higher rates of pay given to councillors in other boroughs as an excuse for hiking their own allowances). Buy any regional or local newspaper and the stories about expenses (both extortionate and petty) will be the same. Some people, however, have managed to persuade themselves that every thing that is evil and detestable can somehow be projected on to the Keens as if they alone are guilty of some terrible act. When the reality, of course, is that everyone who uses or reads this forum (including the purer than pure Mary Mac£eod) would have taken full benefit of the expenses system had it been available to them. But of course that fact is of no interest to those who love to bask in the glow of self-righteousness. And of course to be self-righteous a person has, by definition, to define someone else as being worthy of self-righteous condemnation: for that the Keens will do just fine, won't they?

I, too, wouldn't wish squatters on anyone, but can't help feeling they are making a valid political point with their banner "Reclaiming your taxes". I'm almost beginning to feel a little sorry for the Keens: squatters, Daily Mail, angry constituents, etc. The squatters are certainly media-savvy, see the wind-'em-up quote below from "Sergio" (para 12) that they plan to turn the house into a . . . refugee support centre. I wonder who put them up to it?(From the Mail Online)The ramshackle house that the married Labour MPs known as ‘Mr and Mrs Expenses’ claim as their ‘main’ home has been taken over by squatters.Alan and Ann Keen say the derelict semi-detached house in Brentford, West London, is their primary residence and have claimed £140,000 in four years for a second home ten miles away in Westminster. But now ten squatters have taken up residence in the Brook Road South property, which has boarded-up windows, weeds choking the front steps and a beer-can strewn garden.Squatters have moved into the house owned by MPs Alan and Anne Kean house in Brook Road South.Home truth: The squatters hang banners from the windows of the derelict house owned by Alan and Ann KeenThe new tenants climbed through a ground-floor window early on Thursday morning, beating Hounslow Council, which had earlier threatened to move in council tenants if the house remained unoccupied for much longer. Officials said it would be seized as an ‘abandoned dwelling.’Builders are believed to have left the property eight months ago while they were in the middle of renovating it, and now the six male and four female squatters have made themselves at home among the piles of rubble and bags of cement.Last night, the squatters hung a banner from the top-floor windows which proclaimed: ‘Reclaiming Your Taxes’.One 20-year-old squatter, calling himself Sergio, said: ‘We are here as a mark of solidarity with this weekend’s No Borders campaign in Calais which campaigns for the freedom of movement between countries.‘We are also here to highlight the issue of housing in London. There are 60,000 empty buildings in the capital and we want to let people know they should be lived in.‘We didn’t force entry – we changed the locks as soon as we got here which is something we have to do.’The group, who were squatting in Hounslow before moving into the MPs’ home, were tipped off about the empty property by a member of the public – believed to have been a constituent of Mrs Keen.‘We can be here for as long as we like now. Our aim is to stay permanently,’ Sergio added.‘We are going to try to renovate the property and maybe turn it into a refugee support centre. People’s taxes bought this house.’The property has no plumbing and minimal electricity, the squatters said. The garden is a jungle of creepers and weeds, the kitchen is only partly installed and is covered in dust and bits of rubble, boxes of plasterboard and building materials are stacked up in the makeshift hallway and the upstairs bathroom has no floor.Bizarrely, a upright piano takes pride of place in the basement and the squatters have been playing it to keep themselves entertained.Neighbours say they rarely saw the Keens – even before the building work began. The couple claimed nearly £40,000-a-year under the second home allowance, which has helped them buy a £750,000 Thames-side apartment. Besides claiming mortgage interest of £2,600 a month on their second home allowances, they claimed for other charges and maintenance, including £50 to have their home cinema system reconfigured.Last night, neither Mr or Mrs Keen was available for comment. endit
