Help Re-energise Brentford!

A survey is being done to get some ideas from local residents about what people want for Brentford. The team is located at number 105 Brentford High Street opposite Jenny's. Stop by, have a lemonade and fill in their short questionnaire. They will be there today until 7pm, and tomorrow from 10am - 3pm. The idea is to make a people map which will be displayed in the shop front window.

That's a great idea, will try and pop by tomorrow.  What is the end purpose or the survey?  I want lots of good things for Brentford as plan to make it my home for another few years.  Jen

Hope you had some feedback. I think that Brentford is a great place and community..with the River Thames as a backdrop..and all those Museums and parks providing interests and fun.Most impressed with the community spirit around the Churches, Toy Library..the Library and History Society and the luncheon club at St Pauls. Great streets too with my favourite road being Boston Monor Road..which contains so many fascinating features and buildings.This picture from the Brentford Village Fayre represents to me..happiness in Brentford..the little girl perhaps saying "my turn"!I currently have it as my desktop image..centred on the screen..with a blue surround..looks good!Let's see you all at the Brentford Festival in Boston Manor Park on Sunday 6th September 2009.. leaflets out now I believe...can you help dish some out through those Brentford letterboxes?

Jim I'm learning to look out for your posts - great photos!One suggestion I wanted to make (which I may as well do here) is to remove the parking bays on the south side of the high street and widen the pavement. Because of the bus stops (which are needed) and peole waiting, mother and others with buggies don't really use the south side unless they have to. Realistically the massive rebuild could wait another ten years, so if money could be found it would be a vast improvement and encourage people to spend more time there.

Just a quick couple of questions. On whose behalf is the survey being carried out? and, what is the realistic likelihood of any recommendations being carried out? I don't like to be curmudgionly, but, like a few others on the forum, I remember the much vaunted "Brentford Plan" of 30 years ago and a variety of well-intentioned initiatives since then, few of which have actually had any (positive) effect on Brentford (for those who live there currently).

The Survey was being carried out by a company (marketing company, I think) called Soundings on behalf of Ballymore who apparently own a good chunk of the high street, certainly most of those old boarded up buildings.  I popped in on Friday and took part in the survey.  The girls were lovely and it was fun, I have to say.  What they'll take from it?  Who knows, I guess we'll have to wait and see.  I think they were canvassing residents to see what we want for Brentford in general.  I got the impression that not much will happen anytime soon though....

Interesting insight - anyone who has lived in Brentford don't do arty stuff (and is not trendy); anyone who has moved in recently watches arty films (and is trendy). Brave statement. Means Lord Reith was fundamentally wrong.Any other friend-winning observations?

When should we expect to see the results of the survey?I doubt if anyone thinks there is no need to improve anything - and one small carpark ain't the complete answer.

There is to be another Workshop at 105 Brentford High Street next Thursday 23rd July (no time given I'm afraid) where they are looking for ideas on how you feel the South Side of The High Street should be shaped.Also Monday 27th July they are offering a tour of developments across London from 4pm till 9 pm (coach leaves Brent Way at 4 pm) but you would have to advise you wish to participate as this may be invites only.But certainly get yourselves down to 105 High Street next Thursday to see what they have to offer.

Trouble is nothing ever gets done in Brentford. It s all talk and no action.Brentford High Street never moves on. It is a shambles and has been for as long as I have lived here.I have given up on ever seeing an improvement.
