Saturday 08/08 steam train in brentford at 1314

On Saturday the 8th of August a Southern Rail Battle of Britain class locomotive Tangmere 34067 will pass through Brentford station at 1314 from London Victoria via South Acton on the way to Shalford. Now is that enough warning for you Jim to get your Kodak Browning ready

Thanks for the notification about another Brentford Station visitor Craig.I'm elsewhere at that time tommorow unfortunately but hopefully someone in cyberspace will capture the moment,A chum was telling me today that the "marshalling yards" at Feltham were once to second largest in the UK!.possibly to do with Army Depots nearby. Anyone know?Hey..here comes that steam engine!!

Craig,Perhaps I should have got my Brownie camera at the ready..as my camera and camera phone..were not quite up to it when the Tangmere came through this lunchtime. Were you there? My morning/lunchtime engagements were cancelled and I therefore able to nip down to the Brentford railtrack in good time..and decided to check out the Church Walk footbridge first and see if there was a viewing opportunity at that location..and there certainly was. After I took this picture 5 minutes before the train's arrival..my camera card was FULL! I was then manually trying to delete some of the 475 images on the card..but I couldn't remember how to do it!!..normally doing it on the Computer here.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooI could see a gentleman and a child on the north side platform..and then all a sudden a steam engine was slowly approaching in the distance.  Action camera phone..which I've rarely used...took one snap and then I pressed the wrong button!  Anyway I have one snap..but need to learn how to download from camera phone to Computer.!!Wasn't it a pleasant sight. Nine carriages and the engine gently and smoothly passing through Brentford..with passengers galore.  Thanks again Craig for the tip off.

Thanks Hugh for that clip will have to see when the Orient Express is next due in Brentford

That was a steamy one Hugh!Reminded me of days back in the 40's and 50's in Chiswick.. down that Dean's Lane alley at the back of your place in Whitehall Park Road... up on the pedestrian railway bridge and seeing the steam engines approach.I sure it wasn't sensible for us to play around like that..allowing all that steam and coal dust (soot?) to blast  that "muck" up our short trouser legs!!Are we paying for it now? ;0)Thanks for the clip Hugh..and to Craig for launching this interesting thread.

Thanks Hugh for the video and Kevin for those great pictures. It's so easy to get one's timing wrong..but to snap three is special.Wow..lots of carriages!  Chiswick has a special place for taking such pictures and that is a the Polytechnic Sports ground in Hartington Road..where one can observe the the whole length of the train as it passes from right (Great Chertsey Road)to the left. I believe Ian Wylie is the expert there. Here's another poster:
