Climate Camp London August 2009

My views on it were made pretty clearly on a similar thread on the CW4 forum, I can't stand the way the Climate Camp has aligned itself with issues that have nothing to do with enviromental issues (the Stockwell shooting, Ian Tomlinson's death).  Totally undermines the credibility of the camp and gives the impression (correctly or otherwise) that it's just a gathering of the loony lefties.

Did your march change anything, or did everyone go home and carry on as usual after their walk about. The point of the camp is that everyone does not go home after, they stay and try to keep the pressure on through the publicity it generates. I think the events detailed in my last post will be a little more disruptive to our lives and the lives of future generations than the climate camp will be no matter how long it goes on for or how many people take part.

Tend to agree with your sentiments Adam, what good does this sort of thing do. I'm all for protesting, have been on a few marches in my time, but climate camp? Seems to be preaching to the converted.

Hmm, in all probability, instead of making one more person see the light, it will only succeed in causing chaos/unrest which will consequently not help the environmental cause in the slightest.To quote, from the good old lefty Guardian :The camp will also involve "training a new generation of climate campaigners to take direct action" in the run up to international talks aimed at securing a new deal on cutting emissions in Copenhagen in December.Oh joy :(

We live in a polluted world where the rain forest's are dwindling the seas are being emptied and their levels are rising. The human population is swelling to unsustainable numbers. This century mankind will be fighting wars over water shortages more than any other reason. The super rich owners of vast conglomerates continue to rape our world for short term profit whilst leaving it barren and useless by the 1000's of hectares. What are you worried about Jim that a few people may be a little late for work, and you may have a penny of your taxes wasted policing people showing their concern over the mess previous generations have left us and our children. For heavens sake man pull your head out of your arse and face reality we can't afford not to have the climate camp even if it just make one more person see the light and try to force change befor its to bloody late.

More disruption.  Hopefully no injuries.More police overtime.  Can we afford it?I once read that after training, uniforms, pay and allowances, weekly hours worked, short active working span (years), sick pay etc etc and pensions etc....policing costs us £200 per hour per officer.Is the campaign justified?
