cpz - boston manor road

Finallly it's happening - having waited 5 years -  since it was 1st thought of doing.  having sufferd all these years with - free airport carpark - all day parking for the passengers of the tube - Your days are numbered.     hooraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

I did ask the question back in June about Glaxo and parking.  This is the reply from LBH."No spaces would be allocated to GlaxoSmithKline although they would have the option of applying for business permits. There are limits on the number of permits that businesses may be issued and the cost is also considerably higher than residents' parking permits (more than 10 times for staff). We have not received any requests or indications for such permits so far."

There are usually business permits available wherever there are CPZs.  My actual point, or at least one of them, is that paying for a permit does NOT guarantee you a space even as a resident.  It could be that in this instance there could be a ban on business permits as Smithkline already have a lot of parking in the area but councils usually want to maximise income.

Correct Ian. Of which, I am one. And I am prepared to pay slightly more tax in order to be able to park in the vicinity of my home on weekdays. I suppose I could travel to the homes of workers at Glaxo and park outside where they live and walk home. Not very practical though.  Sadly, gone are the halcyon days when there was enough room for everyone to park anywhere. Ironically, many who park during working hours outside my house, display their own CPZ permits from their own area.

Unpaid car park ? I was under the impression the public highway was maintained by road , petrol and local tax payers .

We are so happy to be getting the CPZ.  Don't forget, the majority of people have voted for this measure. When we moved to Boston Manor Road in 2002 we immediately looked into getting off-street parking.  We were told this was impossible due to the tree directly in front of our house.  Fair enough. But at the time I had a 3 year old and was heavily pregnant.  For 7 years I have struggled to find a place to park on weekdays, (anywhere in the surrounding vacinity NOT just immediately outside our house) with babies, children, buggies and shopping etc.In the last year or so this part of Boston Manor Road has literally become an unpaid car park for TVU and Glaxo with cars waiting to jump into the space you are vacating as you get in the car. The CPZ is long overdue and very welcome.

Tony You're absolutely right about unused spaces - round Osterley / Spring Grove there are loads because the council has allowed loony householders to boot all the commuters out even though the householders normally park in their own drives - cue virtually empty stretches of road and commuters taken to the cleaners by the exorbitant tube car park.

I suppose it's a territorial/laziness thing,sort of - I want to be able to park My car outside My house at any time,and I don't want to park elsewhere and walk thankyou.  Far from easing parking it has exactly the reverse effect,taking out unused spaces for chunks of the day when mums with kids etc. could nip to the shops or whatever.  I don't know if it's a fundraiser for councils,it's not supposed to be.  It may however be an effective self financing vote catcher/loser,depending on where they put them.

Absolutely agree with you as well.  I have often wondered what all the fuss is about - if I have to park somewhere for whatever reason - someone is parking outside my home its a case of swaps isn't it?  I live very close the Brentford Station and the way I see it is if my car is parked at home no one else can park there if I have gone out chances are I have parked outside someone else's home - what's the problem - its just revenue for the council.

Today I shall mostly be wondering if people that live in CPZs feel ever so slightly guilty,when parking outside someones house who isn't in a CPZ?

Not wishing to sound pedantic but Boston Manor Residents' Association were involved in this one way back in 1999/2000.  I just wish that the car park in Boston Manor Park had been sorted out already.  There is still funding to turn it into a pay and display car park - the only solution to keep the TVU and GSK people out of it.  The proposal is for a cheap fee for park users and hopefully a fortune for the rest.  During the summer, park users were definately inconvenienced and the grass damaged due to irresponsible parking.  Still, nothing can be done until Sky get their electricity!
