The New Audi Centre... Latest addition to Brentford's GWR

What made me start this new topic was the front page article which says that the New Audi centre is on the Brentford/Chiswick borders.Nothing of the sort! It's in Brentford TW8 fairly and squarely."Brentford is Brilliant" don't forget!Wonderful to see such design in OUR neighbourhood to join the world class Glaxo Smith Klein skyscraper...along the road in TW8... and the TVU tower recently opened by HM The QueenJust wait till that Skylon Tower is completed on the corner with Ealing Road (Great West Quarter).  Brentford can claim to be the home of many magnificient places. Don't let them tell you it's on the borders with Chiswick!!RegardsJim Lawes'O' level Geography.

As the gateway to the North, the bridge ought to say 'Brentford Bridge', on the Kew side of the river.

WilliamThe road bridge certainly displays the name "Kew Bridge" to river users; as there were predecessors to this one that was opened by Edward VII, it is likely that the name "Kew Bridge" was carried on.  The railway bridge is known as "Kew Rail Bridge" by river users.

Of course Brentford is big.  It was, after all, one of the two 'County Towns' of Middlesex. Unfortunatley, the authorities decided to usurp our powers and leave the other 'County Town', Hounslow, to swallow us up. which has left Brentford run down for years.Rise up ! and demand your heritage back.The very least they should do is give us back the 'Leyton' Museum.

William,Yes I think you're quite right.We know that the road bridge was opened by King Edward VII in May 1903 and that there is a plaque in the centre. I wonder what it says on it?The plaque is close to the shrapnel scars from WW2!

jim,l think the actual name kew brige belongs to the railway bridge that crosses farther down the river side by the strand.The bridge you know as "Kew Bridge" is i believed called the edward vii bridge ?

"Or should I say Brentford.""Brentford Is Brilliant" will do nicely!Emma:Brentford extends to the other side of Gunnersbury Park..as far as Gunnersbury Avenue (west side only). It even includes the south side of Popes Lane from Lionel Road to Gunnersbury Avenue.On the Great West Road..Brentford extends to the Chiswick Flyover (west side) and includes the Leisure Centre and the old telephone exchange.Brentford is sure big! (And north to Boston Manor Stationand west to the Nat West bank at Gillette Corner.

I’m pleased it’s finally finished.  During construction the contractors parked all over the footway, blocking the cycle lane, and their delivery trucks queued on the carriageway, blocking lane 1.Unlike the contactors responsible for the Great West Quarter site opposite - their conduct in these regards has been exemplary.And yes, they’re both in Brenford!

where is the brentford/chiswick border?  I do agree however that the new Audi building is firmly in Brentford.

Nothing wrong in your saying that you live at Kew Bridge! You reside on, or close to, Kew Bridge Road and part of the Bridge is indeed in Brentford is it not.I would say that you live near Kew Bridge, Brentford.Doesn't the Brentford boundary go down the middle of the River and the Bridge? It certainly includes Lot's Ait (Syon Ward!)Yes some people do flaunt the Osterley name (instead of Isleworth TW7) even when their road is outside the "village".You can write to me if you wish at PO Box 1, Isleworth !!Sometimes when I'm speaking to people far away, I say that I live near Twickenham Rugby Ground and they all register with that!Anyway, back to report on the Audi site...they're belittling Brentford!

We all do it though don't we ? - I always say I live at Kew Bridge even though my address is Brentford (and I'm closer to Kew Bridge than the Travelodge) !.  And how many people put Osterley as their postal address rather than just Isleworth ?!.

Here's another example of a company deciding to change their address for a more marketable one.....Check out www.premierinn.com for the location of their 'London Kew' hotel.  Mad eh?  At least Travelodge call theirs Kew Bridge.Mike
