Brentford Library

Library users and members of the local community who have been following the last years' activities as new contractor JLIS take over Hounslow Cultural and Heritage Services will be pleased to hear that some changes are in progress at Brentford Library.  Two new members of staff, Ross Kenning and myself, Stella Hawkins, have collaborated with the existing team on some new projects to add value to our already popular services.. The first innovation is a free weekly drop in surgery by Outreach workers from VICTIM SUPPORT.  This takes place every Tuesday between 12 and 5pm and is proving popular.  Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, and you can get advice on crime prevention, and free confidential counselling if you have suffered from, or are fearful of crime in your area.Further events will be taking place in the new year, such as AUTHORS TALKING events, expansion of the book groups we already hold twice monthly, and Local History and interest talks by Local experts such as EDDY MENDES and JAMES MARSHALL.  Come down and see us and tell us how we can improve your experience of using the Library!  Regards from,Gill, Stella, Ross, Phoebe, Claire and Elizabeth

And open on the morning of Christmas Eve as well, for all those books you need to keep sane over Christmas, as I found out when I went in today assuming this would be last open day until the new year.

Sorry, the vip scheme has been cancelled, as it was pointed out to me that we don't want to spend money that could go on books, on tea.  However, refreshments will be provided on special days and for events.  And we're all still available for chats and informal internet training.  Come on down!

Hello Kath, unfortunately we're replacing.  However, we are determined to make a go of the project and are now acting in parnership with Osterley Library to ease the staffing preassure.  Why not pop in and see us?

Welcome Stella, and it's nice to hear of improvements to the library.Can you tell me whether the 2 new members of staff are additional to existing or replacing them. In other words, are we to see an end of Brentford library closing for days or lunch hours due to lack of sufficient staff in the borough to cover sick leave and the like? I did send a letter of complaint to the new contractor but they didn't deign to reply.Also, book shelves have been emptying at a rapid rate. Can you tell me how the quantity of fiction and non fiction (separately) is due to change over the year and what the plan is?
