A thought for the foxes at Xmas

Please don't forget to put your turkey/chicken carcases at the back of your garden for the foxes this Christmas. They need your support to stay healthy and they are brilliant recyclers.AND if you get rid of your meat scraps in this way there is far less likelihood of bin bags being ripped open and strewn over the pavement.Merry Xmas to all.Ian.

Sorry I don't want to increase and encourage the fox population whatever the time of year and I'm also afraid it may not just be foxes who are encouraged to visit.Stripping the carcase and boiling it up to make soup is part of our family's Christmas tradition. The slow cooker has made this even easier.  Bones then take up less space in the food waste bin.

I hadn't considered the risk to pussy cats. Our cat only eats "Classic" cat food - he won't even touch fresh fish, fillet steak, chicken breast etc. whether cooked or not. Mad cat but nice generally.I suppose if a neighbouring pussy were to choke to death it would only be a matter of days before Mr Fox cleaned up its remains and destroyed all the evidence.I digress.

Those who have worked it out survive, those who haven't don'tSo whether you put out raw or cooked bones depends on whether you're trying to increase the fox population or decrease it?I haven't seen any for quite a while; they're obviously not that hungry yet.

They eat the lot. Don't know how they do it....maybe David Attenborough can give an insight?They're even getting a taste for curry round here !!

Interesting that we used to be advised not to give chicken bones to dogs, but I suppose I have never heard of a fox getting chicken bones stuck in the throat. Foxes must have worked out how to deal with that kind of problem.
