Is it a mistake to get rid of a bath in the bathroom in case we need to sell? Does it reduce the value?

Probably but it depends where you live. If you live in a one bed flat then no change to a shower but if you have a 2/3/4 bed house keep the bath. You could sell to someone with children and children need baths not showers.
