Stephanie,I think every MP who voted for the Iraq war made a serious error of judgement (and Ann knows that's what I think, by the way), although I also believe that they were misled on the issue and that none of them had any inkling of what the resultant loss of life might be.I take the view that we would have gone to war whoever had been in power. That certainly doesn't justify it, but what it does do is concentrate the mind on those other policy areas where there are actually differences between the various parties and candidates. If you examine the way that Ann Keen bravely piloted through the House of Commons legislation to give greater equality to gay people (something she received a considerable amount of hate mail for and was, I believe, stalked and assaulted on her own doorstep over); the long hours and many late nights she spent on the committee that introduced the National Minimum Wage (something that both you and I have benefitted from); the campaigning work she has done for Make Poverty History; her work on the problem of childbirth fatalities in Africa; the way she perservered to help ensure the first ever Domestic Violence Bill was passed through Parliament (a big issue for me, btw, as it was rife in the family in which I grew up); and the work she has done in her capacity as Health Minister for Cancer Services to improve access to NHS services (e.g. the cancer guarantee and free prescriptions for all cancer-related drugs); plus, most of all, her long-term record of active opposition to racism and the far right (she took the Chair of the BBC Trust to task over Nick Griffin's appearance on Question Time and also had a go at the General Secretary of the Labour Party for rescinding the party's "No Platform Policy") - on these various issues, she has a far more progressive record than any Tory MP would be likely to have. But yes, Iraq was a terrible thing (in my view it was an act of colonial aggression) and it simply cannot be overlooked. However, neither can it be undone. And this is where I come to the latest rant from Phil Andrews. I'm afraid I really don't buy his stance on the Iraq issue: for three years, he quite happily sat on the council's executive with a group of very right wing Tory politicians, most of whom I suspect were strong supporters of the Iraq war. I somehow doubt that he took any of them to task on the issue. He has also, of course, publicly sung the praises of the fascistic AMJA, who not only supported the war but who even found it necessary to write to the local paper a few years ago applauding the dropping of bombs on Hiroshima. (AMJA did, additionally, do quite a lot of canvassing against Ann Keen specifically over her support for gay equality).I have no idea who Phil is talking about when he says that I claim to be good friends with a certain Hounslow Councillor: I've never claimed anything of the sort. There are a small number of LBH councillors who I am vaguely acquainted with, and this fact reflects my very peripheral involvement in Hounslow politics. Unfortunately, Phil simply cannot except that fact, and chooses to believe that I am behind every single local Labour Party activity.

You're right it probably won't convince me, but if you wouldn't mind sparing the time then just humour me for a brief subjective instance...If you don't want to talk about the expenses claims then that's ok. How about we talk about how someone who seems such a great believer in human rights, peace and equality (an opinion you have quite admirably expressed on many occasions) can feel it appropriate to show such unwavering support for and defend so vehemently someone who voted for the war in Iraq, you may try to argue that for some reason it was necessary to go to war (I wouldn't believe you, nor do I think you would really believe yourself..) but any logic Ann may have mistakenly seen in going to war is irrelevant because she then went on to vote VERY STRONGLY AGAINST an investigation into the war in Iraq after allegations of war crimes etc. Could you justify that? I apologise to everyone that this is a little off-topic, I just wanted to make it clear that personally my issues with the Keens are not restricted to their fraudulent (and you can dress it up any way you like, saying you spend at least 2 nights a week in a house with no bathroom, no furniture, no electricity and most of the floorboards missing is a big fat lie. Even my 3 year old could tell you that's a lie.) expenses claims, but with their immoral voting habits and their blatant disinterested, part-time attitude towards their constituents. Also, now that they can no longer have their second homes money as they've been well and truly rumbled on that front, does that mean they will move back to Brenford full time or stay in their Waterloo apartment and sell up on Brook Rd South?'Good to see your name on the W4 forum, btw.'Long time listener, first time caller. The Keens locally known as Mr and Mrs Expenses have for years lived the high life and charged the cost to the Taxpayers and constantly refused to attend any public meeting or indeed Surgery despite many requests to explain how they can possibly need a luxury apartment just nine miles where they supposedly live in BrentfordIt is well known here in Hounslow that the Keens rarely if ever spend any nights at their Brentford property and instead allegedly allow a family member to occupy the premises as well as work full time for Mr KeenBoth promised on the night they were re-elected in 2005 to give the full details of their expenses when I challenged them and yet and until the FOI enabled their enormous claims to come to light they have constantly avoided doing so and disappear for long periods of time until they believe the dust has settled when the matter is raised. As representatives of a once great and proud Labour Party they have let down and deceived all those who voted for them by preferring to stick their noses in the trough rather then fight for the interests of the residents in Hounslow and have over the years become more and more remote from the ordinary man and woman in the street. The local Labour Party here in Hounslow rarely if ever defend the Keens actions and instead endorse the actions of a couple of activists from a neighbouring Borough to smear the other candidates against them which stinks of desperationIt is not just the Keens of course who are embroiled in this scandal and it is sad that all our Members of Parliament still cannot grasp how much disdain their is for their deeds but at least some are now apologising and attempting to put their house in order which is far more then the Keens are willing to do
