"Alleged MP"

Can't  post on Chiswick W4 site as there seems to be system error! No matter, I'll try here. Phil Andrews constant bleating about whether or not Robin is, or is not, a member of the Labour Party is becoming somewhat tedious. However, I love his comment regarding our incumbent MP Ann Keen who he refers to as an "alleged" MP. Were we to extrapolate this to all elected Members of Parliament and indeed elected Councillors of Local Authorities I would expect that Councillor Andrews would class himself as an "alleged" Councillor.

SteveI left Ivybridge in 2003 but was asked to stay on NITA as a Associated Member,When some of the Committee stabbed me in the Back to get me off the Committee "Chris" supported me that night so i was OK to know`about things then but because I dont support Labour and I booed him after he walked off the stage without Shaking Hands 4yrs ago at the Civic he comes out with this Rubbish.Chris has been the Treasure of the Resident Association for nearly a Year and he still hasn't sorted out the Bank Account Problem so as far as his commitment to Ivybridge well all i can say is its a Joke!!

Paul,Maybe they were imaginary leaflets? the Lewis Carroll and tolkein reading perpetual child in me quite likes the idea that our current MPs exist only through the power of imagination.. but in that case Ann/Alan Keen are terrible choices... Maybe next time we could try using Robin Hood and Aslan? or a 3 headed goat with lettuce instead of fur? i mean.. if it's just made up stuff anyway, might as well go nuts.

We could Chris, but that would be detrimental to the street scene and we'd probably have The Isleworth Society on our case.  You know what it is when these uppity resident-types get ideas above their station.In the meantime I'm afraid the Robin thing will have to wait a little longer.  There are, as you imply, much more important things to discuss.  I was just kinda hoping that as a frequent and vociferous contributor to these forums (fora?) he would have the courage to place his cards onto the table in the way that you and I have done.And less of the delicate flower stuff please chap, I know your bite is much worse than your bark.

Language please,language Phil!! As you well know I am a delicate flower and easily offended. However, can you oplease get off your soap box as to whether "he is" or whether "he isn't" a member of the Labour Party. I have said that I am unaware of ever having met the bloke, Sue has said that has known him for years, Robin has said that he will not say why not leave it at that? Of course, in your election campaign you could always attach leaflets to lamp posts asking " Do you know if this man is a member of the Labour Party?"

Stephanie/PaulI think Sue is referring to a New Labour leaflet, back in the days when they produced them, which was placed into one of the display cabinets by a sympathetic member of Hounslow Homes staff in direct contravention of the "no politics" rule which for obvious reasons the local authority and Hounslow Homes operates.  I instructed Hounslow Homes to remove it and they did so forthwith.Of course things have changed since then.  Certain people are no longer with us.  Although some members of Hounslow Homes staff still support Labour (why shouldn't they?), a new mentality prevails and staff, and residents, work constructively with each other for the greater good of the organisation and of the community.  How this must rankle with the likes of Sue.I don't recall there being any reference to surgeries on the leaflet for the very simple reason that by the time this leaflet was placed into the display boards La Keen had long stopped holding them, forseeing as she apparently did the incident in which a disturbed female member of the public stalked her some years later and was arrested for doing so.I have to agree with you Stephanie that this is probably the most piss-poor excuse for an MP ceasing to fulfil her duty to her constituents over a period of several years that we have heard to date, and if this doesn't demonstate to us the lack of respect this party has for the intelligence of the general public then I really don't know what does.I wonder if Robin is a member of the Labour Party?

StephanieI can assure you that I have never ever seen a poster anywhere in Isleworth advertising the imaginary surgeries for Ann Keen and as she refuses to meet anyone apart from her devoted inner circle this is hardly surprising

oooooh i see, so that's why she can't hold any surgeries, because somebody removed the piece of paper with the times written on it... Well you should've said so before, that's completely understandable. i mean, nobody should have to go through the traumatic ordeal of.. Y'know.. Sticking up another one, or even *gasp* displaying them through an alternative medium... Poor Ann, tell her my thoughts are with her at this difficult time, and the fruit basket is in the post.    ¬¬Bleargh, there's a BNP candidate for Feltham and Heston.. *shudder* makes me feel all dirty..

Its just sour grapes because Phil lost the election and Ann won. I've heard the ICG tore down her surgery times and contact details from notice boards on the Ivybridge, how can she serve people when that's going on?

Looking up something else, I came across the next to last sentence in Ann's maiden speech in the House of Commons on 2nd July 1997 :"The first duty of a Member of Parliament is to be an advocate for one's constituents; similarly, I intend to be that, regardless of their race, age, religion, sexuality or disability."

ChrisI realise that Ann is venerated by those of her immediate acquaintance in the manner of a queen ant.  As such when you encounter less than adulatory references to her from the likes of me I do understand that it must come as an awful blow.  Indeed when applied to more widely acknowledged deities it is known as blasphemy.  I feel your pain.However in my simple understanding a Member of Parliament is a person who, having triumphed in a constituency ballot at a general election, then undertakes to represent all of his or her constitiuents equally and to the best of his or her ability.  This would include holding regular advertised surgeries, liaising and working constructively with the local authority, replying to correspondence and generally being available around the constituency.As none of these qualifications would appear to be acknowledged by the present incumbent in Brentford & Isleworth I, with great regret, must consider any reference to her being a Member of Parliament to be a mere allegation as opposed to a statement of fact.Is Robin a member of the Labour Party?

Phil, Thank you for taking me at my word. Could you now also do the honourable thing and answer my questions?Is Ann Keen our elected MP? Yes or No?Are you an elected Councillor of the London Borough of Hounslow? Yes or No?Are both these positions supported by a legally constituted vote by the relevent constituents? Yes or No?Is Ann keen therefore  according to your words our "alleged MP"? Simple questions, requiring simple answers.

ChrisI am happy to take you at your word that you have never met young Robin, despite the fact that he claims to spend so much of his time in Isleworth.You may be aware that a few months back he claimed not to know Sue Sampson.  Then, a very short while later, Sue announced on here that she had known him for years.Can you understand why some are a bit reluctant to accept much of what you guys say at face value?Anyway, if you are reading this Robin - are you a member of the Labour Party?

As far as Robin is concerned, I have no idea. I am not aware of ever having met the bloke. Not really comparable to your silly posting suggesting that Ann is only an "alleged" MP.
