Congratulations to ICG 250000 Pounds to be used on St John's Rd Community Hall

They were in power for 35 years , so they had to achieve something. The fact remains that at the end of that the council charged the 5th highest council tax out of 32 boroughs.

To be honest I lost the run of this thread as it got somewhat messy. What Labour did was to ensure some of the best schools in the country,and excellent nursery provision. Built the Fountain Leisure Centre, ensured a replacement swimming pool at Chiswick, provided services to help local people dispose of household rubbish at a price they could afford or free in many cases. Started the recycling service. I could go on and on but life is far too short.

George,Well I never, there's my Dee and I both worked all of our lives he get's 129 pounds and I get 78 pounds per week pension, out of that we pay 140 per mth council tax, 82 per mth Electric, Gas per mth 60, Thames Water 40 per month, TV Licence 13.85 per mth, Home Ins 37.85 per mth. Phone 27.50 per mth. All I can say is that if dear old maggie had not allowed us to buy in 1986 we would be out on the streets perhaps we should have been Trader's after all even when being investigated poor loves they only get 300 pounds per week. What a bloody shower?

To vote BNP would be catastrophic we cannot have NAZI's within our Society, however much I disagree with Labour opening the floodgates to immigrant's from all over and leaving our own people out in the cold. However if the Conservatives do not get in I can see an awful lot of BNP MP's striding the Hall's of Westminster they have already made inroads to places like Stoke-on-Trent where they have 14 BNP Councillor's and that is just the tip of the Iceberg. So you see Labour became New Labour and were given a chance Conservatives are full of Younger Enthusiastic Go Getter's with good ideas let's give them a chance.

I think you are rather keen on the lady. What did she do for the working class in addition to selling the family silver for a song to the city slickers who are interested in just one thing - the share price because that determines their bonus? Stuff the quality of the water for example, or the Mogden effluvia, or rail safety into Paddington. And also she brought in selling off council property for a song, thereby reducing properties available to the new working class seeking to find a rented home for the first time in their lives. Earlier you said that you knew of some 50 people who have been waiting for a home - suggesting the system was unfair.All over the place with you but I do enjoy your feisty approach. But I agree with you that the system was unfair. I aso agree that Labour should not have continued with this Tory idea. But have we heard that Cameron will abolish the buy back system? Don't think so. Has he proposed a massive house building programme like the Tory did in the 1950s. Don't think so. Anyway you have to be well heeled working class or any other well heeled class before you would wish to look at one of those service charge demands on your doormat.Do you also know that the government reckon that council tenants are paying about 40% less rent than people do in private accommodation. Thats Labour for you.Do you know that very generally in London, the Councils each have going on upwards of say 9000 people on their waiting lists and that they only let about 1000 to 1500 dwellings per annum? How would you solve the problem? Vote BNP? But you are a devout ICG lady.

You see that is the big difference, they may be councillor's but they do not get above themselves and forget who they represent, my experience of them is that they were their when Labour were not. You should never ever forget your begining's because it will always come back and bight you on the bum.

At least when u contact the ICG Cllrs they reply and Help unlike the MP.I have had many dealings over the Yrs with the Cllrs from the ICG and they have Helped me on many issues and Residents that i have refered to them, yes i dont agree on some things they say or Do but at least they Reply and Help!!!!!!

So how come previously under Labour the council tax was the 5th highest in London then? How come the Labour council wasted thousands suspending 4 members of staff on phoney accusations, damaging their lives in the process? I have, however, to agree that ' rebranding' the borough was an absurd act of vanity.

Thank-you Sharon, you at least seem to understand that this 'coalition' council don't actually give a stuff about many of the everyday things that most people hold dear. I think the St. Johns Community Centre is a wonderful facility, but to sell your vote to the Tories to buy votes in the election, at the cost of letting so much else be damaged for it, is extremely questionable.

Oh I see, now I know.  It's really useful having somebody with your political knowledge, experience, acumen and wisdom to explain these things to me. I am in your debt.Now tell me Sharon, do you share local Labour's opposition to regenerating our community buildings?The reason I ask is because the original Conservative proposals to withdraw the subsidy for hiring them was one of the aspects of the original budget that Labour opposed.  I guess you weren't aware that the Leader of the Labour Group, Councillor Jagdish Sharma, publicly acknowledged the role of the ICG in ensuring that this particular proposal was shelved (see the webcast of the Borough Council meeting, 2nd March 2010 at www.hounslow.gov.uk)?All the same Labour's opposition to the original proposal would seem a bit pointless if you don't want to see these buildings survive anyway.

Sell out?  A sell out to whom, our constituents?  Seems your views on these things have not changed a great deal since you were in office Vanessa.So far then the replacement of a highly valued community asset has been described as "a waste of money" (Jagdish Sharma/Ruth Cadbury) and a "sell out" (Vanessa Smith).  I trust our opponents, having nailed their colours so firmly to the mast, will not be going around claiming the credit for this funding as is their usual practice?

The price of a vote to support the Tory budget and sell out sure has gone up - from 30 pieces of silver to 250,000 pounds. Pity our schools budget didn't get such support.

£250k is an estimated figure.  Any work that is undertaken will be properly costed and rigourous procedures will be in place as always to ensure that any services procured provide the best possible value.  The local authority will not spend more on the project than is needed to do a thorough job, but it is a thorough job that is needed.

We certainly do, under Labour our community centre wasn't even fit for ducks it was so damp, Shirley Fisher and the ICG took notice and asked what we at Syon needed we told her and they responded well, we now have a completely refurbished hall enjoyed by all.

What we have to remember is that St John's Hall is extremely old and has had no work done on it before, so a complete refurbishment is needed in all probability 250K will not be enough. It's places like this that keep the community together because the majority of us can not afford to go out to the Theatre or Resturants.

That is completely unfair and a typical Labour Lie, ICG have been very good for our communities, Shirley Fisher is always their for everyone with sympathy, help and advice, where the hell have Labour Councillor's been or Ann Keen for that matter she is only showing her head because of the forth coming election, she is so up her own backside since becoming a very very rich MP that we Brentonians and Islworthians are not good enough for her, supercilious rich *****, show me what Labour did for our community the 26 years that they were in power before the last Council Election and I will show you ZILCH.

Phil,Typical Labour Spin, however we know different and they will get short change from the majority. They can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. After all we never ever get a straight answer from Labour.
