Pond life to contest Brentford & Isleworth

Sadly, it appears that the BNP are fielding a candidate in the parliamentary constituency which includes Brentford.This is according to the UK Polling Report website.In addition, UKIP and the English Democrats are standing.I think I'm correct in saying that the BNP need 5% of the vote to retain their deposit. Most polls are giving them around 3% in the London area, so with any luck they'll lose it and have to cough up the money again next time.Nonetheless, it's still unfortunate for the large Asian community in the west of the constituency that they're going to have to contend with receiving the BNP's vomit-inducing s*** through their letter boxes during the campaign (because unfortunately, the BNP are entitled to a free mailshot).

Oh I agree that they are not a major threat this time round and we should treat them as the pygmy-minded prats they are. But they are dangerous prats and we should not dismiss the threat they can present - see other boroughs in London where residents have decided to send the government a 'message' by not voting for the mainstream parties and ended up with BNP candidates elected.As for this election being all about BNP bashing: not a chance of it. There are other things on the public mind that deserve answering and we should ensure that there is the widest debate on all the issues. Hopefully our local MP will grace us with her presence at the Hustings.However, I would point out that this strand was originally about the BNP standing in this Borough...

I agree with Anthony here, They are not a threat and won't be challenging for victory or even 4th place.They are a sideshow and are not relevant unless they are used as a convenience to deflect from the real issues both nationally and locally.To turn the whole campaign into a lets bash the BNP is a cop out and is exactly the sort of thing that will turn voters towards them.It is wiser and prudent to ignore the tiny minority and tackle the real issues.

No vitriol Anthony just democracy.In the European Elections the BNP got fewer votes than they had previously.  However, because of voter apathy the overall vote was down so the votes they did garner became a larger percentage of the total. Unfortunately this was then translated into seats for the BNPThe ICG, although not having a direct interest in those elections i.e. we had no-one standing, actively canvassed before those elections to warn voters of the consequences of  not voting.  One of the major parties tried to capitlise on the situation by untruthfully saying that voters should vote for them as a way of keeping the BNP out - something of a cynical manipulation - whereas all that was really required was for people to vote in general, increase the overall vote and thereby minimise the BNP's share.Given the understandable cynicism of the general public regarding politicians in the wake of the expenses scandal it behoves all parties to encourage the population to get out and vote. Lest we forget, the Nazis were democratically elected.

This is a democracy and whether or not you loathe them, views and differing views are exactly what democracy is about.Many loath Labour and how it operates and likewise with Tories.No significant amount of reasonable people will vote for them so why the vitriol?Is it because there is a fear that they may be a serious threat? Do they have an argument or point that touches a nerve?The public are not stupid, they will vote if they feel strongly about something.They are no more a threat than the SWP, IWA or any other minority party and would vanish into the haze if it were not for these sort of undemocratic threats that come from mainstream parties. It keeps them alive!It's wise to remember that banned parties very often come to power because the lure of the ban provokes curiosity and suspicion of what and why the mainstream is so keen to banish.It might be horrible and distasteful but in a tolerant free society, has to be tolerated.Best ignored
