Mary Macleod challenges Ann Keen to a public debate

"Mary Macleod, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Brentford & Isleworth has challenged Ann Keen MP to face her in a public debate on ‘Policy and Principles’, following the MP being condemned for 'serious misjudgment' by the Standards Commissioner." I think its very unfair that Mary hasn't invited Andrew Dakers to participate in this debate. Andrew Dakers organised and spoke at several debates on the Expenses Scandal across the Borough quite recently and ALL parties were invited.Naturally, Ann Keen didn't turn up but at least we were able to question and hear the views of Adrian Lee, Phil Andrews, The Greens and others.Should Mrs Keen accept the challenge,  I think we all know that Ms Macleod will run rings around her but why won't she show us what she's really got and challenge Cllr Dakers?

I simply do not understand why, collectively, our elected representatives have not put all these wonderful plans and promises they can think of at election time, into practise. What a shame.What on earth have they been doing and what on earth can we expect of our MPs after May.

Very stylish Conservatives even had blue colour wash lighting up the walls to compliment David's speech today - had the sound off but it all looked good.  I fancy that style of lighting either side of our chimney breast.  Much crisper lines of ardent supporters in the camera angles today, they all looked shiny, too.:-)

I have been keeping away from the news but caught a short bit this morning.  Sigh.Lessons so far - take pop socks in official car/coach/handbag in case you have to take your shoes off (poor Sarah that was very cruel, many women do not have straight toes but it is normally private and should be so).Take own hard hat (Gordon) in official car/coach/rucksack which is the colour you prefer and is comfortable, so you don't have to accept what you are given.Ask the news people at arranged static event to show you the camera view so you know where to stand to be in the picture - Mary Macleod, live Sky broadcast (with David) which filmed the side of her face and at one time her hand so it looked like she might be on a mobile ...  :-)Is it going to rain this afternoon?  Anyone thought ahead and had clear brollies/ones in the right colour/with right slogans on?  In case somebody hands out Ikea orange ones.....

Agreed, Matt Harmer would make a good MP. Andrew Dakers also is a good candidate and elections should be about local people who live in the community representing us. Not people who are drafted in by a party or like the present incumbent who only use the place as an excuse for expenses.

Honorary doctorate. That's the one given to celebrities and philanthropists and those with connections, as opposed to those who work damned hard to get an ordinary doctorate.probably awarded for giving a helping hand with a few NHS promotions.Fox and Stag Hunting - An issue which really should only be debated and voted on by people in the country. But actually for 8 years this is pretty unimpressive stuff. Given a position of power it is meagre.It may be all true but it says it all. Unimpressive.

"Which of these are untrue, Mr Waller?"It doesn't matter whether they are untrue or not. Most of those issue are irrelevant to the electorate in my opinion. She should have been deselected and one of the decent Labour Councillors should have stood.

Would have loved tp see Matt Hamer standing as MP. What a contest between two local Councillors who have both worked for the community and one person who has travelled the country looking for a seat.

Oh well, if it's in a newsletter from her, it must be true!Please.20,000 items of casework. As a civil servant that has been required to draft a 2 page response to her 4 line standard letters, believe me, this is in no way as impressive as it may seem.

I also received an informative newsletter through my door about her some weeks back, and this shows much of her good work..*Works 80-hour week.*First nurse to be appointed a Health Minister.*Lobbied successfully to stop BAA from operating Mixed Mode.*Campaigned and delivered – under Labour – a New West Middlesex Hospital after years of Tory neglect.*Awarded certificate by League Against Cruel Sports for her strong record of voting against fox & stag hunting.*Named ‘Public Figure of the Year’ by a cancer charity.*Secured face-to-face meeting with Arts Council Chief Executive to persuade him not to axe grant to Brentford’s Watermans Theatre.*Awarded Honorary Doctorate & Professorships for her contribution to Nursing, Health and Equalities.*Successfully dealt with nearly 20,000 items of casework since 1997.*Delivered GP Walk-in Centres including “Heart of Hounslow”.Which of these are untrue, Mr Waller?

"Er.. the MP who only turns up to a local event if it has a promise of a picture in the paper and on her terms?"And the same MP who says she supports the victims of Mogden but runs off over a weekend to have cocktails and clandestine talks with Thames water and pledge her support for the expansion which has already caused misery for thousands of residents in just the last two weeks. The woman is a disgrace to common decency, morals and ethics.

Er.. the MP who only turns up to a local event if it has a promise of a picture in the paper and on her terms?The one who says one thing at a public meeting and then heads off to the house to vote in the opposite way.The same MP who has sold out on issues to cowtow to the whip and the promise of a ministerial position?The same MP who has had no contact locally other than her party inner sanctum?The MP who seems to have 'spokespersons' do everything for her except nothing is ever official and probably does more damage than good.The good work (which is not much compared with other MPs even in opposition) is completely shaded by the other antics. So much of which has not been addressed and brought to  satisfactory closure.No. She indeed could learn an awful lot from a few local Labour councillors about being really in touch. Two of them are very good councillors indeed and I would vote for either of them as MP if they stood.I really wish that the local party had at the very least reigned her in a bit and brought home the message that has disillusioned so many of us Labour voters.

Our local MP could learn a lot from him."Hold on a minute, I haven't noticed Ann Keen getting involved in all the "party political nonsense" on this forum, she prefers to leave that to the ICG Councillors."He has been active all through his tenure not just when it comes to election time."In that case he's cut from the same cloth as Ann Keen -- if what friends have told me about her work is anything to go by.

Cllr Harmer is just what a councillor should be, contactable and in touch with his community.Steers clear of all the political party nonsense and has a better understanding of practicalities and needs of the district.He has been active all through his tenure not just when it comes to election time. A credit and example to what local councillors should be about.Our local MP could learn a lot from him.
