Advice on newts - please

The pond I was taking blanket weed out of this morning is full of varying sizes of newts.  When I realised they were entwined in the weed I put it back in the pond and picked up the few stragglers.Is there a time of day when they might be less likely to be in the blanket weed?  Any suggestions about this?Thanks:-)

Cyril is now on to peanuts and filling out fast, in spite of the many comments saying he should be executed, I have to say he is soooooo cute when he is taking his milk from a little syringe, aaaaaaaaaaaah.

oooh, yes.  Found some practical advice, thanks.  Hope the squirrel is being trained to leave bedding plant containers alone when making his winter store!  :-)

Have you Googled this? My youngest son is at present hand rearing a squirrel he found, he just couldn't get hold of any animal welfare people to advise so Googled it. Cyril as he now is, is doing well and will hopefully be released back into the big wide world as soon as he is weaned.
