Labour, My Dad must be turning in his grave

My Father was a life long Socialist and Labour party supporter. He fought in Spain with International Brigrade against Franco and his fascists and then against Hitler. I wonder today after watching the disgraceful way in which Gordon Brown Prime Minister slandered an elderly lady for simply asking a question what my Father would say.I think he would have been sickened by the two faced arrogance displayed by this man and the contempt he showed towards this ladyby branding her a bigot. It would seem to me that this contempt isnot just the preserve of the Labour leader, as it seems to extend locally to our MP Anne Keen who could not be bothered to up to the hustings in Brentford.This is not the party my Father supported, these people are not fit to lead this country.

Hate to disappoint you, Steve, but I've heard that the high turnout may well kill the BNP's hopes in Feltham West. It was quite obvious from her speech and remarks at the Chiswick Hustings last Friday night that Ann Keen has given up on Chiswick and the eastern part of the constituency and is concentrating her efforts farther West. She probably knows by now she will lose to Mary Macleod and is concentrating on helping her husband Mr Alan Expenses  Keen beat off the strong challenge from Mark Bowen in Feltham and Heston.

I read this and made me giggle. Having been in that house when the squatters were there, if Ann was genuinely upset, she must have the worst housekeeping skills in the world and dread to think of the state of her second home. I wouldn't let an animal sleep let alone live in the squalour that was that house.Biggest bit of nonsence I've heard so far from this pair.

Looking at the Ann Keen website this morning, I noticed that the photo section headed "On the Campaign Trail" just has a blank space saying "Coming Soon".The only campaign activities I have heard of are the Chiswick hustings (where photography and recording were banned) and the reports on Brentfordtw8 of a photoshoot drive-by to Ivybridge. Any other sightings ?Twitter talks about visiting a "Fab event at Martindale Gudwara" and allegedly there was a meeting with Andy Burnham in Brentford.Speaking of Mr. Keen talking, the BBC website spoke again of his wish to get an opportunity to put the record straight on expenses. Do you know if he has had it yet ? It's not what Gordon Brown said that was revealing. What was more telling is how sickeningly stage managed the whole election has become.All it showed was what Mr Brown really thinks of people, pretty much the same as anyone else.Labour vets and sets up every 'chance encounter' for the media. It is all stunted up.Tories and Lib-Dems do just the same.The lady in Rochdale was a real person who slipped through the net - probably deemed a harmless old biddy given that the Labour collective mindset assumes anyone with a view is a bigot.It exposed the whole thing as a sham. Locally, it is the same. Mr & Mrs Keen seem only interested in doing things in a staged way as well and avoiding true contact with the electorate.We are voting next week for a local parliamentary MP to represent the people of this district. Not for Gordon Brown.To vote for Mrs Keen purely because she is in the same party as Mr Brown is plain daft. One should vote for Mrs Keen if you believe she is a good localcandidate to serve as your MP.Labour could win the election and Gordon Brown may well be ousted by labour MPs as Prime Minister within weeks. That is increasingly likely.Remember the same thing happened in the GLC. Labour won but Ken Livingstone toppled and ousted the then Labour leader days after being relected.

Most people are scared too Claire, even without your insight which means you must be positively frightened?It is even scarier to speak about it and have people take it the wrong way because there is a want to see ill in the questions people want explained.  It is as if we do not have the right to ask and have an explanation and to be allowed to discuss the explanation.Mrs Duffy being a bigot - why is the Prime Minister being allowed to think such a thing of her?  Where are his advisers coming from?  (Coming from, not from - puhleese!)

I was beginning to agree with Bernadette but having listened to Brown's answers on Immigration, I am genuinely scared. Working where I work, I KNOW the state that this Government's Immigration policy is in and his seeming ignorance of this is very worrying to me.What's more worrying is that the other parties clearly have no idea the state of Immigration at the moment which is why their proposals are equally worrying.It is not a good time. Believe me.

Just plain - living in Brentford and huge developments of intense housing mean that there is no school of choice?Where a huge number of children don't achieve the bench mark of 5 GCSE's for whatever reason or combination of reasons?Work those policies for us, chaps or work out why they ain't working and sort them out.

Sarah's line is great:  I would like to see 'money where their mouth is politics' I'd love to see the Education Minister struggling to get his kids into a school where they don't have to join a gang to survive, The Health Minister waiting hours in Casualty with the Drunks on a Saturday night to have a crying child's earache attended to, the justice minister being charged  when he defends his home and family against intruders and the Immigration minister living in say Southall and feeling like an alien in his own neighbourhood.

I wouldn't call replacing profit with borrowed money prosperity. Or do you somehow believe that Woolworths ran up £385million of debt in just the two months between the 'credit crunch' starting and them going under? Having been made redundant several months before the 'credit crunch' became headline news, I am well aware that Britain's economy has been on a one way ride to disaster for many years. Surely only a complete idiot could believe that continuously lending money to people who would never repay it was a recipe for economic success?

I see that not one person has commented on the pillock who waylaid Gordon Brown yelling and shouting about not getting his child into the school he wanted the other week. Fuuny that, as apparently said sprog has now been given a place, that looked like a set-up to me, I wonder if that loudmouth has had the good grace to apologise to the PM?

'scuze me but the immigration answer was not sound.She WAS impressed with Gordon speaking to her and taking the time with her.  He should have taken Sarah with him for the apology to knock it on the head.  The overnight US news ran the story alongside a couple of Presidential gaffs caught on microphone.Is anyone really interested in what the people on the street think?  I would like to see 'money where their mouth is politics' - if you are a Minister then your children should be in state school as part of the job (trouble is only people without children would then take the job!).

I think Gordon was having a bad day - maybe not enough sleep or something. The strange thing is that the answers he gave the lady were sound and most would have considered his performance good, especially as it was all off the cuff.Anyway, they say the lady is being represented by a PR company now - if it's Max Clifford then Rochdale's debt problems will be over lol.

Of course it's not alright but it's real life.  How many times have we all been pleasant and smiling to someone (maybe a boss, whoever, whatever) and walked away and criticised them?  It's something everyone does and hopes not to be caught out.  My boss actually overheard me refer to her as "a hard faced cow" the other week.  Clearly she is not pleased but she is stuck with it as indeed am I so I know how Gordon Brown feels.  What's the alternative?  When out trying to win votes do you openly attack people you disagree with?  Would that have been preferable?MPs of all hues, including Gordon Brown are simply human beings with all the flaws that entails.  He got caught now he has to move on.  We have a fairly limited choice in this election and he, in my opinion, is the best of the three which perhaps says little for the other two.

I think it says a great deal about the people around Gordon and the conversations they are having with him - why are they not talking upbeat with him?  Why did he not have a prepared answer ready that he was comfortable with and why was the conversation in the car not 'she was challenging and got 4 subjects raised in the space of 4 minutes, phew!' followed by 'salt of the earth' and maybe even a giggle.How are the people around the leaders really supporting them in this exhausting battle?

The point is, he is not honest. If he disagreed with what she said he sould have been man enough to tell her to her face.

Exactly Neil, who hasn't done exactly the same thing millions of times before.  Trouble is he got caught,  I actually feel for him although it has to be said, I am sick of everything nowadays having to be PC and obviously the very fact she mentioned immigration is a no go area where you are liable to be branded a racist/bigot etc.  Obviously I agree with the lady but we live in a time where we dare not say it.However, I have posted on this forum several times stating I would not vote for Ann Keen again but, I have changed my mind.  I will be voting Labour in support of Gordon Brown not in support of our MP.  To register a protest vote at such a time is, in my opinion, the height of stupidity.  Love him or hate him I believe Gordon Brown is actually the best chance this country has at present at getting back on its feet.  Gordon Brown is far from perfect and he has a temper, so what?
