Upon Leaving Office
It is customary to say a few words of gratitude following the declaration of Election results and I should like to thank the residents of Syon in Brentford for putting their faith in me these last four years – I hope they will not be disappointed by the new Council’s performance in looking after their interests in the next four.I should like to commend the hard work of the staff at the Civic Centre not just over the last 48 hours but over the last 48 months: their kindness and support during that time was greatly appreciated.I should also like to commend Labour for running such a campaign of unimpeachable integrity: it was so refreshing that one culd totally trust the accuracy of both the facts stated within their election materials and the truth of the opinions they contained. It was fabulous that at no time did they stoop to frightening vulnerable people with made-up stories of what would happen if they did not vote for labour candidates. Truly this campaign was a shining example of everything that this once-great party currently embodies. So once again residents of Syon, a thankyou for your trust over the last four years: it has been a privilege to serve you. Good luck for the future.
