Land of hope and quarter finals

The World cup offers many things including the chance for us all to come together under one flag.I’m pleased to see so many St George crosses on show but particularly delighted when one is displayed by a newcomer to our shores.It’s a shame that there are so few opportunities for us all to openly share in our our countries achievements (even if it is going out on penalties in the quarter finals) and I hope that those who we have recently welcomed from overseas use this opportunity to display their pride in the the country they have chosen as their new home.

I have no doubt that Harvey knows many newcomers to our shores personally as we all do. I was a newcomer to our shores myself many years ago and I am sure that most people I met knew it because of my accent and my preference for Guinness rather than bitter.
