planes all night last night

Why was there a plane landing every 15 min all through night. My sleepless night meant I kept hearing them well past 3am. What was going on?

I contacted the BAA noise line. It was a test plane for the landing gear at Heathrow. This takes place at least twice a year. The plane never lands but approaches the runways from all directions to test lading gear. BAA noiseline 0800344844

I'll have a look at WebTrak later in the week when the radar tracks for last night go online.  It might have been an aircraft doing a series of approaches to test the landing systems.  There appears to have been something similar, mainly to the west of Heathrow, on the previous night.
