Boston Park Bowling Club

There must be oodles of silver trophies won years ago, hiding in the backs of cupboards where burglars can't spy them.These were won at BPBC and I photographed them before they went on their way to their new home.

for a couple of years the Council didn't do any work on maintaining the green then wanted to charge the club a considerable increase in their usual annual green fees to get it back into some kind of playing condition. There were only about 20 members, mostly elderly, and we just couldn't afford it. We always had our suspicions that they just wanted our club-house for a new tennis club!!

My Dad and I were members of Boston Park Bowling Club when it closed (through no desire of club members I might add). Most of the members all went to play for other clubs. Those of us who can, still meet up every year to bowl indoors down in Torquay.

Sarah,  The Bowling Club is no longer in existence..but in the Boston Manor Park cafe..the Club "Honours Board" is still in situ.You ought to pay Linda Massey and Jan Jones and their band of volunteers a visit there sometime if you haven't been able to so far. They'll be interested to see what you have (or had!)..and may be able to put you in touch with some past members.The bread pudding is highly recommended!  and the park and cafe are tops!
