Double Yellow Lines

Resident's petitionTo Resident/Occupiers Hamilton Road AreaProposed Controlled Parking ZoneDear Resident/Occupier,You like me will have received a letter from the London Borough of Hounslow informing us that they will not pursue the Controlled Parking Zone proposal.  Their arguments were that the majority of respondents were opposed to the proposal.  I think too that they were persuaded that they should not consider a street by street introduction as this would not reflect the view of the area as a whole. However, at their meeting they decided they would like to introduce "At Any Time" restrictions at road junctions "where visibility and access for pedestrians is restricted".  They argue that these restrictions will also "ensure larger vehicles" can smoothly negotiate these junctions.  Formal consultation has now commenced.I want to argue very strongly against this proposal.  There is no question that larger vehicles, including emergency service vehicles or refuse contractor's vehicles, are currently unable to negotiate these junctions.  In addition they have been absolutely no accidents involving pedestrians since I have lived in Clifden Road, which is coming up to 16 years. The double yellow lines will of course reduce the already limited parking space available to residents.  Some people, although I'm not one of them, believe the council's action is pay back for voting down the CPZ proposal. Double yellow lines at, as yet unspecified road junctions are unnecessary, will add to the pressures of parking, will lead to increased policing and generally raise resident stress.  In addition they will involve needless expense.I note to that the consultation will be taking place during August when the number of people will be away, or on holiday.I urge each and every one of you to write to Andrew Nye, who is a Traffic Management Engineer.  His e-mail address is andrew.nye@hounslow.gov.uk.Also contact your local councillor. The following councillors were involved in taking the decision.matt.harmer@hounslow.gov.uk; jonathan.hardy@hounslow.gov.uk ; ruth.cadbury@hounslow.gov.uk ; peter.carey@hounslow.gov.uk ; paul.fisher@hounslow.gov.uk ; genevieve.hibbs@hounslow.gov.uk ; sheila.o'reilly@hounslow.gov.uk Peter BranstonClifden Road02085689044

Pesonally I am really pleased the proposed CPZ scheme will not go through and I agree with you Pete, oppose the double yellow lines as well these will be nothing more than an alternative money raising exercise and the loss of parking spaces they would cause are nothing but a way of punishing the residents for not agreeing to the scheme.  Where I park nr. Northfields on a daily basis to commute to work, in streets where there was never a problem parking and where most residents have off street parking anyway, had, up until a few weeks ago, no parking restrictions whatsoever.  Suddenly however double yellow lines appeared on both sides and both ends of the roads in question thereby immediately losing at least 4 parking spaces from either end of the roads leading to Little Ealing Lane and a further two spaces around the corners into Ealing Park Gardens.  No doubt the arguments for these lines were the same as you describe in your post and I have no doubt they were no more required in Northfields than they would be in Brentford.  They are simply there to inconvenience drivers and in the hope of picking up fines.  These roads have managed perfectly well without any lines or restrictions now they need DOUBLE yellows?  I don't think so.  It's really time motorists reclaimed the roads from councils who see them as revenue providers.  It seems to me the plan is to make any car owner pay yet another tax for the privilege of parking the car anywhere and everywhere and far too many residents are only to keen to join in and pay up.  The mind boggles.
