London Mela 2010 Gunnersbury Park this Sunday.

It's me again.Strange that there is no mention around here of the giant Festival being held in Gunnersbury Park (Brentford Ward) this Sunday 8th August. Yes the London Mela.  It's not just an Ealing Event!Open 1pm till 8.30pm.http://www.londonmela.org/One recalls that many of our readers make a point of going to this huge event and having a good time.

I recall a Chiswick Councillor saying that Hounslow Council were picking up some £10,000 left over bills in years gone by..but I'm surprised that there is no mentioned of the huge Event on the Civic Centre website...unless I've missed it.The Mela website at least mentions LBHounslow in its front page list of sponsers.Plenty of "nosh and dosh" for Sunday sounds good Phil. Of course I'll recognise your friends and family and will hopefully see you. Robin will probably be wearing all red...or the colours of Cornwall no doubt. Perhaps he'll at least introduce himself..that should be historic and fun.

The rationale for withdrawing the funding - that such a huge and well-supported event should not be dependent upon taxpayer funding from a local authority (it was a very small amount anyway IIRC) - was in my view sound, but in retrospect I believe it sent the wrong message and on balance I regret having been party to the decision.  This is entirely a personal view.Jim, have you been to this event before?  It is unbelievable.  I recommend you go on an empty stomach and with a good few quid on board.  I may bump into you there.

"Interesting that the poster doesn't mention Hounslow Council. Aren't we half sponsors with Ealing Council?"Jim,Hounslow WERE joint sponsors with Ealing - but one of the first acts of the new Tory/ICG coalition administration in 2006 was to axe its sponsorship.
