You make a very valid point, Jim, and one that I trust will not be lost on the Fire Service and Council. Were the Thames to flood, then there would be a need for rapid distribution of sandbags etc.It may be a good idea for people whose properties may be in the flood plain to think through how best they could safeguard their properties, black sacks taped over the ventilation grilles, towels or similar under doors, ensure that precious papers etc are stored upstairs and not in basements, etc. How many know where their insurance policies are? Jot down their emergency contact number or plug it into your phone. Photograph your rooms so you have a visual record of what was there to aid your memory when making a claim.Obviously, sandbags filled with earth will do, but what if your garden is under water? How would Hounslow cope if the Thames did burst its banks, due to excessive rain etc? This incident could be a very timely wake up call.
