Burst Water main Road closures lack of advice for residents

I can understand the burst water main at bushcorner/syon lane is a major incident and understand the need to close roads.It is obvious the best route is to divert traffic from Goddards junction onto The Great West Road hence clossing  Brentford High Street up until Bush Corner.However i  cannot understand why residents/business who live/work behind Brentford High street/Brentford Docks etc.. are not allowed access to their homes/buisness other than on foot.The Police directing traffic can offer no advice other than to say park up somewhere..which is impossible when the other side of High street is resident parking or limitted hours on a meter.There is no information for residents and the council website says although the road is shut local access is allowed which contradicts what the police diverting the traffic are doing.Surely residents should be allowed access to roads which are not affected by the flooding or be provided with more information as to when local access will be allowed.

Once again the police or authorities over react and assume that all people are either the enemy or stupid.The restrictions are so over the top that of course, people do end up getting fed up and doing daft things like driving up one way roads or along pavements.No sign of a single traffic warden or policeman doing point duty and directing traffic.In every other country the first thing a police officer, warden or PCSO equivalent is taught to do is point duty. It is even part of French, Belgian Swiss and Italian national service.But not here. according to the Met Police info " Police Officers are no longer authorised to direct traffic as it is in breach of health and safety guidelines and only traffic police can do such"Hence the over the top restrictions. No use of man power = third rate practice.A total absence of common sense....againAnd when the cuts get made, what's the betting that the bright and able ones will go and the idiots will keep their jobs?.

This evening the diversions signs and "road closed ahead " signs are totalling misleading to many motorists and it's a great pity that Joe Bloggs is treated with such disdain.At the Half Acre junction (Goddards)..travelling westwards..there is a "Road Closed Ahead" sign and several more further along to keep one on high alert. This is only a half truth because one can proceed across the canal bridge (at the Holiday Inn )and proceed all the way to the Coach and Horses Pub and it's car park on the left 200 metres before Busch Corner.  Thus access is possible to all those estates and properties left and right.At the Coach and Horses one can turn right and proceed without a problem to Gillette Corner.

I can't understand why there were restrictions east of the canal other than for through traffic as the water, had it reached that far, would have discharged into the canal.JL

Thankfully I was not affected by this debacle last night but, I could see that traffic along the Boston Road was a nightmare.  I have to say that whenever I have come across police directing traffic for whatever reason, they always appear to create 10 times more chaos than is necessary or would be likely to occur without them.  As for common sense well clearly they are programmed to have none.  The church beside the Inverness Lodge on Boston Road had a fire a couple of years ago and the fire brigade were in attendance along with the police.  I had already had a nightmare journey home from work which meant I had to walk up from Goddards to home, just opposite the library.  I was allowed to walk halfway between The Butts and Somerset Road - about 25 more steps and I would be home but no, the police made me go back to the Butts and round the block to come out at the top of Somerset Road.  When I had done this I was able to speak to the same policeman and ask what had been the point of that except to inconvenience people?  Again, no sensible response to be had.

Its a real shame that our local councillors could not be bothered to give any updates on here but they all appear to have disappeared recently for some reason now their honeymoon period is overAre the Syon councillors still not holding surgeries by the way?

Finally allowed access at 7.00 pm last night . Still cannot understand why residents were not allowed access by car earlier when water was no where near main high st in brentford??,why the police contridicted the hounslow council website that local access was allowed and were so rude to residents asking to get into their roads and could offer no advice when we would be allowed in?.Maybe if and when this happens again better communication with residents/business may be considered and a little common sense used.

Why were the police allowed to close off the whole of Brentford because of  a problem at Syon lane. there seems to be a complete lack of common sense here. All it needed was a sign at Goddards saying NO Through Rd not shut down the whole of Brentford affecting hundreds of people unnecessarily. Shame on you!
