Rare ebay item - Brentford Dock Railway

GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY COMAPNY & BRENTFORD RAILWAY LINE and BRENTFORD DOCK.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GREAT-WESTERN-RAILWAY-CANAL-BRENTFORD-PAPERS-etc-/290462884163?pt=UK_Collectables_Railwayana_RLThis file, which is 50mm thick, contains PHOTOCOPIES of Acts of Parliament, Indentures, Letters, Articles from magazines, Parliamentary Proceedings, Auction catalogues one of which includes plans of the land for auction, Track plans,Drawings of buildings,etc. About three quarters of the file are copies of documemts, etc from the 1860's to 1900, another eighth are from 1900 to 1930's, the rest are more modern. An interesting archive which was compiled by a local historian.

Returning to the push-pull service have read that the GWR engine no.833 was fitted with the exterior coachwork in 1906 and removed in 1911 due to excessive heat experienced by the crew.Trumpers Crossing Halte is correct, as shown on the postcard, having the glamorous French spelling as English halt conveyed the wrong meaning according to Wiki`s notes on GWR thinking.The passenger trains called from 1904-15 and from 1920-26.Also enjoyed the trolley bus link and found the orangey livery attractive and nostalgic.

That trolleybuses video was uploaded by a chap called QuarkmanO.Some time back he was asked for the names of the pieces of music played..and his answer was:"Housewives Choice, Desert Island Discs, Two Way Family Favourites, The Navy Lark, Billy Cotton Band Show, The Archers, Sing Something Simple, Meet The Huggets, Children's Favourites, Music While You Work, Dick Barton, Sports Report and, finally, Down Your Way."

Hi David, Yes a wonderful video...the creator has a couple of others on You Tube as well..but perhaps not as good as that one.  Doesn't the music bring back memories too?I must credit a chap called Peter on what was then a fledgling website in Hounslow TW3 who just casually added that trolleybus video link to one of his pages some 4 years back just when the video was released. So thanks to him, I spotted it..and of course snapped it up for us all to enjoy all those years back...and again currently.Also thanks to the Acton W3 forum that has just embarked on a Cinema thread.  Delving deep into those links, I have just found this gem of a picture...so apt for this fine thread of Neil's!

At the 38 seconds point on this fab video, you can see the old railway bridge at Brentford Town Station.This is a treat if you haven't seen the video before. Put "trolleybuses" in the Forums Search Box and you will see that we have been this way before..with old forum friends in year 2007.

Here are remnants of Brentford Town Station forecourt.. cobbles and all. Picture taken when I was having my car MOT'd by the very capable adjacent garage.Apparently, above the brickwork, there is evidence of the old platforms. It may be possible to ramble along there from Hazel Grove to have a look!

"The passenger train is fronted by a GWR 0-4-2T engine with the funnel just visible."Actually the disguised engine is at the back, pushing the carriages.Jim wondered whom to credit for the photo.  The answer is the National Railway Museum.  The photo appears in the book "Branch Lines of West London" by Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith.  There are reference copies in Feltham and Hounslow libraries.  There is a sample page from the book that includes this photo at http://www.transportdiversions.com/publicationshow.asp?pubid=2157(Click on the thumbnail)

There was a Chiswick Forum thread recently by Becky Bell called "to Southall by train" or something...and it really was interesting..usual stuff from me etc etc..but an insight into life in old southall.At the time I had visited the old GWR preservation society place behind the old AEC factory. They have moved..and I found myself at the end of the Brentford Line at an old Southall steam engine depot where there provide overnight accommodation to Engines involved in day excursions.I found my self parked in front of the Cathedrals Express!Richard Jennings took a video of the train approaching Chiswick Station and it is quite fab. That's on a Chiswick thread called "for rachael..steam etc. See if you can find it at W4.com...If you have a problem we can help tomorrow. It's 1.15am here!

Can you send them an email Neil? You'll have greater influence and bearing.You're highly qualified ex-staff. They will never have heard of me!Did you know that the line is still active. We understand that a long yellow coloured wagon train leaves the West London Waste depot daily (8pm)..and one returns next morning.  Then there is one weekly train with gravel.These pieces of information need confirmation..it's just what I understand.

Seen this before Neil?I'm no idea where I found it and who I should be crediting.It's a passenger train at Trumpers (Farm) Halt..on the Brentford to Southall line. Richard had previously mentioned it was a farm (on the Chiswick Southall by train thread recently). Did you see that thread?

Wow, it does seem to be a rare item Neil.I've run out of pocket money this week!Shouldn't our Librarians here be interested..before Brentford Dock residents snap it up for their own archives?
