Green Dragon Lane,

I just love looking up Google Street View and taking a bird's eye look at all my old homes, schools and other places of interest to me in the area.But when did Green Dragon Lane become a whole new road?When I was a papergirl at Trimmers in the 60's I delivered papers all over that area, and never do I remember there being a Road there.I certainly remember a Green Dragon Lane that was just a laneway that ran right along side the railway line, but never knew it as a road with houses on it at the Clayponds Lane end of it.Tell me this is something new that happened after I left for foreign shores in 1980.Can you tell me anything else that may surprise me that's changed.I know that Beechams has become apartments and that an office block on the corner of Chiswick High Rd and Power Rd is now a Hotel.

We used to walk through G.D.Lane to Kew Gdns. that was our playground it cost a penny to get in.Living in Burford road it only took about 20mins. to get there. .

Melbourne is a treat Sue, with trams around the City (wide roads!)and the jolly railway line from Belgrave to the hills. All very different from dear Brentford which has it's own blend of charm!Jennifer: Which area had you in mind..re posting another map section?

Thanks for replys.Jim, Like many others I escaped to Australia. I'm down in Melbourne and my mum, dad and brother live up in Queensland.Both parents born in Brentford. mum in Brook Rd and Dad is one of the Thomas boys who lived at 14 Albany Rd.I can hardly beiieve it, but dad will be 91 on the 31st August. Mums not too far behind.Just thought of another change, the dear old Brentford baths are also apartments. I did wonder where everyone went to swim now, but I looked up on google and found out that you have a new swim centre on the high rd.I've been back home to visit twice and will try to come over in 2012, although not for the olympics.

There are so many changes Sue that the mind boggles at even thinking of them all!Where are you in the world these days?Many of us will remember the Green Dragon Alleywayalong the railway line..and looking at this 1/6d map I bought in the 60's the alley went behind the School.I've been playing around on this map with text!

Sadly the old Green Dragon Lane is now a handy place to dump old T.Vs, Fridges etc. Maybe it will get a clean up since they are doing up the park.
