Declining standards in LBH

When a sales assistant says "two pound fifty", "eight ninety five" or whatever to me, I make a point of repeating the words back to them... but adding the word "PLEASE".I'm sometimes met with a cold stare (especially from foreign staff), sometimes with hostility but more often with an embarrassed correction.On occasions I have been congratulated by others in the queue and it's interesting to listen to the following transaction as 99% of the time the word 'please' is then used. I don't know what they teach in schools these days but it appears that manners are not on the curriculum irrespective of which country the person was educated.(I'm standing by for some ignorant fool will call me a racist, Nazi, Xenophobe for this - they usually do).

"I'm sometimes met with a cold stare (especially from foreign staff), sometimes with hostility but more often with an embarrassed correction."The aside in brackets is why people will say you are xenophobic Harley: I too often correct the lack of 'please' but have found it nothing to do with ethnicity, it is generally ignorance or poor manners and that is common enough all round.

I haven't got smaller over the years, was clearly visible last time I glanced in the mirror but...  why is it people still keep trying to walk through me?What has happened to "Excuse-me"?  There isn't even an "Excuse-me" before the shove - just the shove with no word of apology.On a more optimistic note I am really pleased to be asked more often now whether I want a carrier bag instead of having purchases thrust into one and having to fight so hard against collecting them everywhere I shop.

How selfish is that?  Jim,you've been amongst the first on very many occasions to take a swipe at anything to do with the Labour Party/Socialists!   It seems that you think that's OK,they are fair game and that the "audience" find that "acceptable",many probably do and many probably don't.  Not on one occasion in my memory have you complained when things get sticky for the "socialists" in threads (some of which probably came from your keyboard),only when a tiny bit of flak gets aimed at a Tory supporter do you complain,there's balance for you.  If you want a politicaly free forum you should look at your own postings first and then lead from the front.

Agreed about seeming declining standardsin certain areas of our lives.But let's start on this Forum!The drivel and dreary rude postings..rarely .mixed with anything polite,interesting,informative let alone stimulating...have encouraged a drop off in TW8.com visitors I'm sure.When you visit this Forum..why don't you leave a cyberspace footprint to be proud of..just sometimes.Just occasionally even, post something on a different subject..and with a different slant. We deserve it.
