The HTC Desire phone

Great news tonight that the HTC smartphonehas been voted Mobile of the year.Some reports say that it is preferrred to the iphones.Have now just about mastered the touchscreen keyboard.. like now!..I'm just amazed at the various applications one can "invite on board" so to speak.One can arrange what apps one wants on the front pageand what 20 on the second and so on.I even have a torch on page 3!Google, FM radio, Internet, Maps, Camera,Video, Compass, Phone lists, Diary, You Tube, Google Earth, Voice Recorderetc all just seem standard fare.It's just amazing. Not that many moons ago some of us had one old black bakerlite phone..down in the cold hallway...asking the operator for a Southampton number.It's all changed seemingly. What applications do you have?

continuing (tapping on my touchscreen!)The Hounslow branch of CPW in Hounslow was so busy when I visited..with queues etc..there was no way that my umming and arring would have been possible!CPW may present themselves as covering all phone brands and signal providers...they seem to have monthly biases!Also,I suggest,have a look at two particular monthly magazines."Smartphone Essentials" and "What Mobile". I got them from Sainsburys.It's valuable to speak with other users if you can and find out which phone, are they happy with qwerty keyboard..or the touchscreen type. Which signal is best near Griffen Park and at the Civic Centre.I've only met 2 people with this HTC including Cllr Robert Olds..but ni detailed or in depth opinions were given.I find this touchscreen hard work at times...good at this moment..but then it will become disobediant...or might freeze...and I lose control! It may be to do with the weak signal.Maybe I should work out if there us a "word" facility I should use. I think the "Notes""copy and paste" is meant to be used.There is a new HTC with keyboard as well. Some people are raving about the new Nokia N8....my son for starters..but a lady on the W4 new forum has given up with it..because she can't cope with the touchscreen.When introducing this thread..I was hoping to engage with others. Everyone seems to use their smartphones in different ways... whether there are User Groups..I'm no aware.The power and scope of what one can do with this little electronic gadget is amazing..looking through Kelly's Directory for 1890 and flicking through 600 pages of text is just amazing.With so many Council emails and documents I would have thought the new top Blackberry would be best...but maybe your colleagues prefer the iphone.Trouble is, a computer in the hand is overwhelmingly seeking attention..that's why a business angel takes it away from me on occasions!This thread has helped me keep in a playful mode!Hope forgoing helpful.Questions welcome.How about starting iPhone / N8 / Blackberry / etc thread on W4. I could do that .By the way, I'm TMobile..free upgrade to HTC..£25pm..free unlimited internet.. 500 texts 500 mins phone calls free to uk landlines. £11 pm insurance but plan to switch that soon for £7pm.

Get hold of the Carphone Warehouse catalogue..Chiswick branch on a late Sunday Afternoon is recommended..when the rush is over..& there are people who can spend time with you..even weeks after the sale. Chap Alistair was very helpful with sorting the screen..& battery saving mattersBeware that CPW staff are on incentives to achieve particular targets..say in a month..to achieve a free tripto Dubai or somwhere courtesy of Orange or T mobile etc.To be continued.

Your thread appeared to be the answer to my query - HTC or iPhone?, but then drifted off into other stuff ( I must say the London firworks as seen on BBC were awsome - how can I download a clip?). nNyway, I Googled "HTC Desire vs iPhone" which helped a lot - cost-wise I'm not going for iPhone, so went on to Orange to find that the Disire is no longer available. Help!

People push..and if you fall..you can be in trouble..as I found in Traf Sq some years back. That was a great posting Hugh...raised a broad smile here as that Hopper has off cropped up in my life. I was once given 2000 prints of it by a firm and we had to stick die-cut Father Xmas's to this side of the counter...(and we never got paid by the Hanwell printer!)There seem to be two types of copy and paste facilities on this HTC phone..and so I'm getting use to grabbing the appropriate urls/ jpgs where they exist...but not having a handheld Mouse..it can be tricky.There is something only 10%.similar to WORD for pasting a reference memo...but it's very limited..ideally a User Group would be helpful.Using the cameraphone, it's easy to upload one's own picture directly from the camera using the SHARE menu..eg to Twitter or Flickr etc. One can only,it seems, post the url from Twitter to the Forums..but not the piccue direct. I still haven't worked how to post a piccie from Flickr to the Forum. Easy with a PC but seemingly impossible with a phone.So, jpgs and gifs from cyberspace is achievable..but takes a while to get used to. This thread has been my learning curve this past 5 days. Nowhere to practice Hugh...unless you've found another hidden unused Forum..(Willesden Junction.com ? :)Again thanks from us all...Hopper on TW8!

The spouts from the Osterley Farm shop are so much tastier than Marks & Sparks ones. They're irregular sized and smaller...but so yummy. Icve a crush on them and can't wait for the next helping. They are best picked just after a frost..says the gardner. Steve Allan LBC loves them too we hear on his radio show.Quite a few media articles about spouts too...an "in" topic!

Hi Audrey, there's still snow around in the sidestreets...but it's disappearing in the drizzle (yesterday) and it's +1C at present. It was extra bad Saturday / Sunday & Monday.The Brentford High Street lights are good this year..from the George H Dragon...over the bridge...all along and even including Goddards.oooooooooooooooooooooo

I'd be embarrassed to tell you how many hours a ...week...I spend fiddling around with this phone.. but my..it is,like the competition, just amazing. How clever those Taiwanese... was them wasn't it?Have now bumped into 3 others on my lonely travels...and it's an opportunity to share notes..and recommended apps.To be able to post direct to this Forum is staggering..for starters..and to be able to peer down on the streets of North Korea or Brentford Dock..or the Hebrides croft I visit..whilst sitting on the front seat of an H91..whilst listening to LBC, Radio 4 or Classic fm..is just beyond a silversurfer's understanding.Then all of a sudden a photo opportunity arises and I become all "fingers and thumbs" and have to start all over again! Twitter is great...another cyberspace community..used for marketing by many...but it's so informative...don't you agree? Not that I wanted to hearfrom Michael Winner that he was going to the Ritz for lunch..in his 4x4. Must go..the toast is burning..and the beans need heating! Only joking! It's muffins this teatime!(Must also get that ruddy modem fixed..now they say broadband is sorted!)

Probably 30 minutes of calls on my mobile every day. Anything between 0 - 20 texts (both sent & received). Perhaps 0-5 mins of surfing - only if I've placed a bet and want to know a sports score or want to place a bet and aren't near my PC.

No wonder my best mate calls me a Luddite. I've never got this obsession with always 'needing' to keep in touch/up to date with current affairs etc. In particular I think it's 'pathetic' how an increasing number of people use their phones and Facebook to say how "John Smith is at The Crown Public House" etc. - always make me think that said people are desperate to show the world that they have a life. As I've always said, that's all Facebook really is, one big ego trip to try to big yourself up.

Very helpful young chap called Alistair works at Carphone Warehouse Chiswick on Sundays.He is seemingly a lecturer at Richmond on Apple Mac matters at other times. Conveniently he also has an HTC Desire which was handy.Apparently there is excitement about the new Nokia N8.How are you doing?
