Brentford High Street history & BBC programmes

Most of the photos shown on the BBC yesterday come from the Local Studies collection at Chiswick Library. And to tie in with the "Turn Back Time: The High Street" series which starts on BBC1 tonight at 9pm, there is a display at Brentford Library about the history of shopping and the high streets of Brentford and Chiswick. There are several books of old photographs to buy or borrow. You are also invited to submit reminiscences and/or photographs to add to the collection. Chiswick Library's Local Studies section is open most Mondays and Fridays.

Thanks for that Mary..I'm overdue a visit to the Local Studies Section at Chiswick...and isn't it handy that one is allowed to do photocopying there too. There are well informed elder residents still living in Brentford who have memories going back ages.  Someone should be making recordings..but it all takes time.I do enjoy the history threads on the Brentford Dock website..well done Duncan Walker. Sadly my broadband is still down.(Pipex!!) and I'm tapping away on this wobbly touchscreen mobile phone keyboard with my fat fingers!
