When the 37 bus (now the H37) was a double decker it had to turn right into Loring Road when heading in the Hounslow direction because the bridge was too low for it to continue along St. John's Road. For those who know Loring Road try to imagine it as part of a double decker bus route, but this is absolutely true - I used to take the bus to and from school!Every now and then an experienced bus driver would get it wrong and try to take his vehicle under the bridge, which invariably resulted in it becoming stuck. Legend has it that on one occasion the police and fire brigade turned up and were at a loss as to how to prize it from under the bridge when a passing schoolboy told them to let the tyres down. They did, and it worked! Not sure whether the story is true, but I've always thought it an amusing anecdote nonetheless.
