Local History

There seems to be a fair few Forumers interested in the history of the area,as am I. I have an excellent book called Village London volume 1 by Eric Walford MA written in 1883/4. the book is classed as semi rare,there's one going on ebay for about £50 (not cheap!).  The thing is it's 576 pages long but only has 21 pages covering Brentford,it does have lots of other chapters on the surrounding areas,chapter one for instance is Chiswick,Turnham Green,Acton,and Strand on the Green. Chapter 4 is Heston, Isleworth,and Sion House and so on.  What I'm proposing is that I could scan those 21 pages and if there is a demand and on receipt of a PM would email to anyone who wants them.    Why do I want to do that? Simply that the book is a gold mine and I don't want the information contained lost to future generations of Brentfordians,plus you might find it interesting!     Copyright wise I think it's OK on the "Personal Research" basis,unless anyone knows better.Regards.

Yes of course you can Jim.Your not too far off with Eigg but we're on the main land and a tad south,just perfect for the Atlantic storms.You'll need to send me an email address for copies,not sure the Forum server could handle the 21 pages.Regards Tony

Mmmmm yes 20ft. in the last 2 years.From our equivalent of Kew Gardens websiteThe mountainous topography and rocky geology are two of the factors that make (***********) such a good location for a botanic garden intended to replicate the conditions of a temperate rainforest. I'll wait a couple of days to see if there are any stragglers then send them all in one hit.Keith, I'm not sure if you took me seriously about the Lapland bit,I hope not,I'm on the North West coast of Scotland,where it seldom snows or is very cold but very often rains (20 feet in the last 2 years).My boss is "down South" at the mo' and if she gets time, is going to the library to have a look at the Blue File for me.She thought the same as me,but I assured her that you're a man of integrity.

:0) it's a balmy 9 degrees here...scorchio! The Laplanders next door are out in their garden barbequeing blubber and putting it in what looks to me like a Subway,you might not know what they are,I'm not sure if you've got them down there yet.

I just had another look on ebay...there's a bookseller selling the paperpack version for £3 free postage (don't know how he can)...treat yourself now.
