-8C at midnight!

That's 17F in old money.Thank goodness for central heating.. many of us didn't have that 40 years ago. Many of us just huddled around gas fires or fan heaters!We've never had it so good!

I drove from Putney to Stansted at 3.30am today - lowest external temperature was -11C, but a very easy journey and lady friend's 06.25 flight was only 15 minutes late taking off.  Driving back round the M25/M3 to our office in Teddington wasn't so nice - I'm sure there will be afew accidents in the rush hour.Having been up since half 2 I'm somehow got to try to work for the day :-(

So there's been a serious crash near the slip road at J3 (heston)..and LBC have said that the Motorway has been closed...because of the accident..and because road is "icy".Motorists eager to get to the Airport urgently could be challenged!Be careful tomorrow..and check on the old folk who might be running out of food etc.

Blimey, Eurostar trains are arriving in London 4-5 hours late..(in the middle of the night)...children, old folk etc...waiting in enormous queues for transport..which is not around!!An appeal for taxi drivers has gone out on LBC radio.Just to let you know. They must be suffering in the cold.

It's got worse...be warned!It's likely to be dodgy in the morning.At 2am LBC 97.3 had been told by the Weather Centre that temps would only fall to -5C..which they then broadcast. A chap from Lingfield Surrey emailed Anthony Davis that it was -12C there..so I phoned the Station and spoke to Anthony on air..reporting the Isleworth -12C and that Heathrow departures were due to start at 6am.So..it's colder than the other night. Those pavements and sideroads.. oh dear!

Could be worse!Haven't ventured out today..don't fancy the dodgy pavements around here...with their cracks and lumps and bumps. But it all looks pretty!Have you seen those fabulous snow pictures on the Chiswick Forum? What a treat for viewers... even on a tiny phonescreen.Bet Vyborg is suffering!

You bet Keith!Didn't the ice form patterns so that you could see out of the window anyway..as we huddled around a light bulb...making sure we didn't get caught up with the sticky fly (catching) paper hanging from the ceiling!!Blimey, even potatoes were rationed in some of those days..and bread and dripping sandwiches our favourite....sunday lunch!Folks today..have never had it so good!Just remembered..we used to have North Thames Gas in our little ground floor flat in Chiswick...not just for the old cooker...but for the living room lighting too!Life today is so much easier..we're a load of softies!No wonder we seem to live so long.

Headline in one of the papers today suggests somewhere in Britian it will very possibly break the record of -26c!Jim,remember the days of scraping ice off the INSIDE of the house windows when you were a nipper?
