Royal Wedding Celebrations in Brentford

The Brentford High Street Steering Group are planning to have a massive street party event on Brentford High Street through to the piazza and along the canal to celebrate the Royal Wedding and St George's Day.  The event will include entertainment, music and dancing, canoeing, various stalls and lots food and refreshments by local pubs and restaurants including a champagne and oyster bar, hog roast, traditional pub food, Italian and Indian cuisines.  The party will start around 2pm giving everyone the chance to watch the Wedding in the comfort of their own homes before coming down to the High Street for some family fun.We are still looking for entertainers including a bouncy castle and anything else that would be fun.  We are also looking for anyone who might like to take a stall.Finally any ideas welcome to make it a really special day for our community, families and friends.Contact Julia Quilliam 020 8847 4737.

Tim Henderson went along and writes:..."I was particularly impressed with the extension of the event into The Butts. The Archery was an inspired idea (not that I had a go !). And the Afternoon Teas with half a dozen huge tables lugged into the centre with fine china and delicate cakes and sandwiches looked marvellous. I'm not sure that the Zumba and body-popping on the Piazza was quite my style - but something for everyone".(Tim still having problems with Forum posting I believe.)

Dear allThere wasn’t the opportunity to publicly thank them all  yesterday, but I must now say a huge well done and thank you to the 'Brentford Celebrates St George's Day & The Royal Wedding' team:Julia Quilliam - Stalls/ fundraising/ marketingJoanne Lavery (The Weir) - licensing/ project management/ site layout.... Helen Martin - The stage/ musicJon Hardy - Chief Steward/ Electrics/ Health & safety watchdogIan Moore (The Butts Society) - Stewarding and organising The ButtsChris Breslin (ISIS) - Stewarding and organising The Brentford Lock Piazza and waterside... who were all backed up by their respective support teams: friends, family and colleagues.  Tim Luckett our Treasurer also helped me and the team with the 'back office' issues that an event like this threw up.Over 5000 people we suspect came through during the day to make what Im sure will be one of the most special and memorable days in Brentford of our life times.  "Incidents" were all very minimal thank goodness and St Johns Ambulance were amazing!  A huge you thank also to stall holders, entertainers, musicians and The Mayor ...as well as our many sponsors including Brentford & Chiswick Consolidated Charities (EBCC), Isleworth & Brentford Committee and ISIS... and all of you who attended and made it such a wonderful and friendly occasion!Best wishes,AndrewChairBrentford High Street Steering GroupW: www.brentfordhighstreet.org.uk - www.brentfordhighstreet.com - www.brentfordisbrilliant.org

Good News we now have a Childrens Fair Ride confirmed that will be placed in the Butts.Also Hanna's new VW Camper van will be parked in the Butts offering shade and water bowls for pets - Dogs, Dragons, Horses etc.

I agree totally Adam. Nice couple; sweet, shy, mysterious and all that and the best of luck to them.I met Will at my sister's civil partnership. He "gatecrashed" the reception with a gang of mates from Sandown. He was a perfect guest and really added something special to the occasion so I do really like the guy. I wonder if he and Kate really enjoy all the pomp and ceremony or do it because it's expected. Let's face it, a registry office do with drinks and nibbles afterwards with some close friends and off to Brighton for a dirty weekend would satisfy most people.

Thanks Julia and your team for all your efforts. I'm sure the Event will be well attended and a great success. The wedding will be quite a spectacle won't it and as I currently don't have a telly I'll probably go to The Lord Nelson first and watch the processions and look forward to hearing the music chosen for occasion.Then take some piccies of the bunting in Enfield Road. What a great little street and ease down to Brentford Town for the day.As you say it's a fun day for the whole of Brentford and will bring great joy. Interest must be swelling..especially after seeing Hugh's "The Invitation" T Mobile Video at the Half Acre Variety Club.!Julie: please email pictures..or Facebook links etc etc tojimlawes@hotmail.com  ideally in jpg form.

Thanks for all the interest.  The event is growing in momentum as we get closer and closer.  It's true we do have lots of Union Flag bunting but we do have lots of St George's flags and bunting too as we are celebrating St George's Day as part of the event.  We are also asking people to dress up as knights and princesses and dragons of course.  We have not been able to secure any tea cup rides unfortunately so if anyone can help out.Whether or not you support the Royals this is a fun day for the whole of Brentford to come together with a community spirit in their hearts.Life can be boring don't you think without these fun things which come along now and again?Looking forward to seeing everyone.I have a great photo here but can't remember how to load them.  Perhaps you can help me Jim or can I email it to you?

If my office was open I'd be at work - I suspect very few people would take a day off to celebrate a Royal Wedding.  Sorry to be pedantic but all the bunting and flags I've seen so far are the Union Jack, and thus not St. George, so I can't 'buy' that either.Each to their own I guess :-)

I'm not particularly pro or anti-royalist but it totally baffles me why the wedding is anything for the public at large to celebrate, what's good about it ?.  People get married every day, yet the whole nation doesn't have a party for them, and they are no 'less important' than the Royal Family.  Bemuses me...

On the Nic Abbott programme on LBC 97.3 this evening..he mentioned that there had been some 600 notifications of street parties for the Royal Wedding around the London area.That sounds quite high doesn't it?Apparently the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham have Nil which Richmond and Wandsworth are both "in the lead" with over 50 each approved..and with more applications awaiting approval.How's Hounslow Borough doing?

Hope you've had some responses Julie!And apologies for this posting being 6 weeks late!Your previous St George's Day celebrations were a great success as your photostreams remind us. And the Syon Park bash and The Holiday Inn fundraiser were knock outs too. You and your colleagues have a formidable record of achievement so let's hope Brentfordians respond again.So, this Topic retrieved from page 4! The excitment about the Royal Wedding will increase greatly as the month of April progresses..you bet. I well remember the Hyde Park firework display on the evening before Charles and Diana married..and the crowds kipping down on The Mall in the early hours of the Wedding Day. It was all memorable.Time for a piccie!
