Syon Park hotel - when does it open?

Is the new Syon Park hotel open yet? Anyone been nosing around inside yet - anything to report? The web site still has computer generated images but I saw the mandatory expensive cars parked outside a week ago. Does this imply its open or not yet?Or maybe the consensus is that the last thing Brentford needs is a 5-star, £300 per night hotel?

A gathering of fine automobiles, auctions?, glamour and sparkling dining... it's free hospitality once you've paid the admission fees.Oh dear, not a mention of Brentford or the London Borough of Hounslow. The hotel inspector in todays Daily Mail Stated that the sevice and food was great but at £380 for B/B was over the top. Only him and his partner were in the dining room. He gave the place 3 stars.

Well yes I suppose it must be open to non residents..with the bar and restaurants being visited by forumers etc.The spa caught my eye... not the beauty treatment section..but lolling around the pool could be an experience. Wonder if the Spa has a membership fee for non res.

Popped in there on Saturday.£14 for a cocktail but a measure of vodka/gin etc started at about £6 or £7.

The American bar at the Savoy Hotel had the best cocktails. Not that expensive either. When I'm back in Brentford next year I'll make a point of having a drink in the hotel. Sadly can't drink beer anymore but a nice G & T would go down well.

Thanks Alan, I hated the Langham, food was totally over-rated/tiny portions etc.  Cocktail wise give me Sams in Chiswick or Kosmopol in Chelsea anyday, considerably cheaper and not 'up yourself' surroundings.Will pop down to the Waldorf Astoria sometime out of curiousity.  Think I might give the 5k bottle of wine a miss though...

Its not the price, its the value of the overall experience. And if you don't like the experience then any price will seem poor value. One person's 'pretentious' is another's 'just lovely' - so even that is down to perception. But £16 is steep for a shot and a bit of juice.So to be more precise, the Waldorf Astoria cocktails are cheaper than the Langhams ... not by much though. However, so far, no Americans. Fair call on the stella versus fosters drinking though. But the days of even stella being re-assuringly expensive are over. Maybe that's the proposed tag line for 5-star hotel cocktails... re-assuringly expensive.

Judging by the apparent 'clientele' of the George & Dragon (based upon a purely visual impression of the numerous times I drive past it and see people drinking in the outside area) I think Fosters would more likely be their tipple, not Stella ;-)How much is a cocktail ?.  Dearest I've ever paid was £16 in the Langham (was only there for a friend's birthday), complete rip-off, so god damn pretentious.  The Americans next to me couldn't get enough of it :-(Funny how in the space of about 300 metres you can go from ultra-chav to ultra pretentious :-(

Been there, done that.Oh so cool and groovy bar. Oh so expensive drinks.All very waiter intense restaurant. All very pricey menu, but the food itself is pretty good. More designed for expense accounts than family meals.Lots and lots of bored, but very friendly staff.Not exactly heaving but a surprising number of folk in the restaurant for a Tuesday evening - including a gaggle of would-be footballers wives, squealing over cocktails and tottering about on heels. What's the collective term? A Geiger (my missus provided this shoe/shrill based term)?Wine list tops out at £5k for a Petrus - I decided against that particular vintage. The cocktail barman does have a decent swizzle stick technique but his ice pick must have been blunt. Upstair rooftop bar / restaurant only opening in May - so you will have to wait a few weeks to be closer to the planes landing while you sip your mortgage-scale drink. Brentford's never seen the like. It might, however, fail to tempt the clientele of the George&Dragon away from their pints of stella.

Lunches are definitely much better value than dinner. We do the same, though at about half that price.

Lunch set menu 2 courses £22; 3 courses £28 plus service12 & half %.My wife & I now we are retired, from time to time as a treat, have lunch during the week at posh resturants; much better value than dinner - also we only have tap water and one glass of wine each.

I think this hotel is fantastic for Brentford. Syon Park is owned by His Grace The Duke of Northumberland... if you go to www.syonpark.co.uk you will find all the history about Syon Park and it's history under the Northumberland family over the last 400 yeras.

"apparently there is also complimentary guest chauffeur service to Knightsbridge" Thats ok then. If he heads out west drives up past the Green School to Gillettes Corner he can head along the A4 and join the M4 ay J3 then head east into London and avoid Brentford altogether

God forbid any of the guests set foot outside the grounds and venture into Brentford, fortunately for them apparently there is also complimentary guest chauffeur service to Knightsbridge and a helipad on the grounds ;-)  Meanwhile, the rest of us struggle on...

Had a look round this morning, very smart, grounds attractive; lunch menu looks good value; dinner priceyexcluding alcohol around £60/£70 per head. Cheaper to go to La Trompette in Chiswick; will give lunch a try in afew weeks time; restaurant at 12.30 today empty. Smart large bar area, will have terrace open from May.Well worth a visit though you may be overwealmed by the staff hovering.

Of course this hotel was planned way before the current financial climate, although having said that, the people who had the money seem to have hung on to it successfully if not got their hands on even more!

When I went to the hotel, last year, and talked to the site manager one idea they had was too attract moneyed up tourists who would want to stay close to London in the grounds of a historic house.

It was originally planned to open as a Radisson Ewardian but at some point they decided to upgrade it to a Waldorf-Astoria. It does seem a strange location I can't see it attracting that many customers at the £400 per night price point but I suspect they hope to make a fair bit from weddings etc.

It does seem an odd location, though moderately handy for Heathrow, I suppose. No easy access into central London but maybe all the expensive cars are happy to pay the congestion charge and another umpty quid a day for parking.
