Dear Mr Thompson after reading this request would you forward this to the appropriate department or circulate the proposition amongst the writers who are presently finishing up for their production departments.Last Wednesday as I was watching a channel 2 programme it suddenly struck me that you and the fellow members of the beeb could help in educating the elderly in a crucial social change that could without being too dramatic help to keep the elderly and infirmed in their homes for just that little extra time that it would take to come to terms with what most fear.Over the years I have personally seen residents in their own homes badgered out of their own properties because the television is too loud, and over prolonged periods of time and without even realizing that they where even disturbing their neighbours or were having hearing problems at all, the decision is made to approach the in-laws and of course the inevitable ensues, as I have witnessed at first hand and found that in almost all circumstances that ‘arrangements ‘ have been made and it is too late to rethink the situation.Hearing aids just do not cut it ,not with all of that surround sound and no instant reduction without having to search around your ears first, a simple comfortable head phone and a hand held control and suddenly your on top of noise fluctuation and this terrible overlooked injustice that it seems no one has even recognised exists just goes away.Mr Thompson with your help and just a very simple insertion into a programme story line a person watching TV too loud is given a set of comfortable headphones plugged directly into the set and has a substantial lead to allow movement some distance from the set, the ear cups would show as being very generous and comfortable to wear with a simple junction splitter that would give other users the ability to join in[plug in] and in my own experience it is a very comfortable and personal way to enjoy television in a group dwelling built without extensive modern sound proofing that can handle HD transmitting equipment with engaged surround sound already switched on when it is delivered from the store..We have used Technique HP with the large padded ear cup and 5m lead for years not because we have hearing problems but because it brings an extra private dimension to the television watching experience especially late at night and the headphones are just sitting around full on, and should you manage to make the take up of head phones look more fashion functional, then the possible usual stigma’s would not even be an issue just a progressional upgrade in user functionality to include those with diminishing hearing.Mark, please do this for Marie, Mr Gardner Flt 1, and the lovely Pippa who would always greet you with a word perfect passage from the book, her last one to me was Mark: Chapter One. Blessed are the peacemakers. That’s you!Thank you all at the beeb....Yrskk.
