In defence of the Waldorf I have to confess that my son in law is one of the chefs and I have eaten there a couple of times. Sunday lunch, if I remember correctly is about £28 for a 3 course meal (I think) but of course you can go off piste and order more expensive dishes. What will rack up the bill are the drinks and service charges. Normally I object to service charge but the good thing about it at the Waldorf is that the staff do get it including the kitchen staff. Normally service charges if they are shared at all go only to the waiting staff not to the kitchen staff so, that is a positive. When I was there for Sunday lunch Gerhard was not on duty but, trying to be objective, the food served to us was not expensive for what we had and the quality of the meats is excellent (I can vouch for that). I did not pay the bill and I suspect the extras did not come cheap. However, how lucky am I having a son in law that can cook up a storm for free when he is not at work?
