Home Insuarance Take Care!!! Read It Carefully!!!

Our roof has leaked because of the dreadful rain that we have had lately, it has gone through the bathroom ceiling down the back of the tiles through the hallway ceiling and the wallpaper. Never having claimed on insurance before I rang Morethan to whom we pay a premium of 963.45 per annum less loyalty discount & commission it comes to 468.00 per year however this does not matter. They have checked the weather back to May and in there estimation we have had no bad storms. Not withstanding hailstones!!As far as they are concerned it is down to wear & tear irrespective that a new roof was fitted 25 years ago.So we ourselves have to repair our roof, redo our bathroom and replace our ceiling paper and wallpaper in the hallway whilst all these years without a claim we have thought that we were insured. Why have we paid this insurance for the last 27 years when we were not covered although we have paid over 12 Thousand Pounds Premium we should have put the money in the bank it would have come in handy now!!.Needless to say I am cancelling our Policy!So people Check and double check your insurance policy because it does not count and you only find that out when you try to make a bonifide claim!!!

Thank you so much, we have also had phone call's from friends one was telling me that he uses a different company every year, this year he has home contents plus building structure and it costs him just over 200 pounds. Ours cost was nearly 759 for both per year it does pay to renew on a yearly basis.

We have our own resources and have for a long time Electricians,Plumbers,Builder's,Roofer's we should have saved our pennies and depended on those close to home, which we will in future. You just do the norm however it does not pay you any dividends when you need it.

I wonder what they'd have said if you had tried to pay your premium with a Sainsbury card? I'd have told them to get stuffed in future. I have heard of this sort of thing on the T.V. - how dare they - they want to be paid in money, so the customer has a right to expect that too. What a bloody cheek. We're too daft by half as consumers in this country, we must learn to stand up to these people.

A relative who lives in a second floor flat was burgled while asleep as was a neighbours but as they had the window open, it was during the very hot weather the insurance will not pay.I am with Castle Cover for the over 50s and have claimed twice, first I spilled drink on my lap-top and second I was burgled, each time they paid but on the second time I was paid out with a Sainsbury card and my computer this time I had to purchace from either curries or PC wold

Morning People, goods new's on the roof, after he had gotten over his disgust at our insurer's our son brought around one of his roofer colleagues and they have gone onto the roof, apparently the damage is a hole in the valley caused by a slipping tile that pierced the lead,behind the parapet even now it is being fixed. If only an assessor had been sent out from our insurer's they themselves would have concluded the same. Other decorating will hopefully be complete by Tuesday,

Dawn,You gdtr is not being penalised for being a woman.A young man of the same age would pay a lot more.The insurance companies do this because they can.Goes back to the question of freemasonry,imo.All boys together in a big club where no-one can get at them.

I think you miss the point, this decision came about without an assessor from the insurance company taking a look. Would you like to see the damage??I will even supply the ladders.Best hurry the work will be completed by next Tuesday, dug up the floorboards!!

I second Jim's post Co-Op every time.  In 1985 my house burned down I had minimum contents insurance at the time only £6500.  My solicitor friend at the time said I would be lucky to get £4000 as I was under insured - Co-Op paid out almost the full amount about £6200 solicitor gobsmacked.  I cannot recommend them highly enough.  However that said, I don't think any insuance company pays out for "wear and tear" which I suspect is in fact the case in this instance.  Storm damage would be covered roof repairs or whatever for any other reason  are unlikely to be covered.

The utility companies need opening up - what we have is a private cartel who agree prices among themselves. Meaning the consumer pays whoever they are with. Dare I say it - Ed Miliband is pushng an idea that lots of companies be allowed to supply power, maybe Tesco, Sainsbury, Virgin etc. like they do with financial services - that might inject some competition into this rich boys club and benefit the customer instead of the shareholders. These things are not luxuries, they are necessities.

As it stands at the moment, the law is completely on the Insurance Companies side, one of our granddaughter's is 22, she has to pay nearly 1600 pounds per year for her car insurance, the car is a little KIA, firstly because she is a woman secondly because she is young.Government need to insist that we are made completely aware of rules that apply to us, all of us need insurance of one sort or the other for goodness sake if we cannot have faith in them then what do we do!! everyone of us at one time or another have apparently been ripped off by these companies! What happens! the premium just keeps going up, show me a poor insurance company and I will show you a liar!The way our economy is at this moment in time, we need protecting from greedy companies. Petrol is running at 1.40 a litre and yet BP announced first quarter profits at 3 Billion, not fair Gas,Electric,Food the whole kit and caboodle goes up and up. It is time that we were considered and these greedy companies were given a ceiling that they must not pass. We just cannot afford there luxuries any longer, luxuries to them necessities to us they must be brought down to earth.

I stand by my original post - they're ALL shysters. Travel insurance is going to be overhauled soon, there have been so many complaints when they don't pay out as they then magically find that you have 'conditions' you didn't tell them about. Now they will actually have to ask you the questions they want answered, instead of you having to second guess what you have to declare or not - and about time too! I tried to claim for a pair of earrings I lost when we were in Hong Kong last year and a brand new suitcase that was in tatters having arrived in Singapore. They wouldn't pay out on either, the earrings because I hadn't reported the loss to the police (they weren't Cartier or Tiffany - but dear enough for me), can you imagine reporting that on holiday to the Hong Kong police? Similarly with the suitcase, we should have got on to the airline - who had already referred us to our insurance company! Robbers the lot of them - in days gone by they'd have hung 'em high on Hounslow Heath.

We never ever win only get penalized with paying more money out for less. It's wrong that they get to utilize your repair as a claim but of course they would just a way to up the premiums.

I had exactly the same problem, and was also told it was wear and tear and I had to pay for the repair myself.  Beware to check your policy when it comes up for renewal, as not only did my insurers not cover my claim, they STILL classed it as a claim, despite the fact they never paid out on it, and my premiums went up as a result the following year.  Not only that, but as it is classed as a claim you by law have to declare it to any further insurers you may approach and it will still count against you.  It's totally unfair but there's very little that us householders can do about it.

I have to admit to being flummoxed at the attitude, especially as I requested twice for an assessor to come out and have a look, initially it wasn't necessary just 2 estimates and then a phone call to say that they had checked on the weather and decided that no storms had happened. We do not have hurricanes but by golly we do have heavy rains. I actually have 2 policies one for house contents and the other one!! I added them up and they came to 749.00 a year, like you I will look on the net and see if we can get a better deal. It is sod's law that if we do not insure then we will have wished that we had.If an investigation is surely needed it is into these companies and there small print.

ALL insurance companies are crooks and shysters just like the banks, and spend more time trying to wriggle out of paying than looking after customers. It doesn't matter whether it's cars, pets, household or travel insurance. They are what I call an evil necessity, we recently got the renewal for our contents and buildings which had gone up considerably - Nationwide. When we looked on a comparison site Nationwide were much cheaper when we put in the details from the renewal form, when asked why they said the cheaper premium was only available to new customers - so much for loyalty then. Funnily we were going to change to More-Than, perhaps we should have a rethink????
