A remarkable evening at the revived The Six Bells Pub

You stayed at home and watched the tele last night? You missed a great evening in Brentford Town at the revived Six Bells pub... which I understand has been taken over by The Lord Nelson (Enfield Road)landlord Lee.It was all happening on that stretch of the High Street from La Rosetta to the Holiday Inn where a celebration seemed to include a firework display which we all could observe from the Pub. That Canal area seems to have lift off.A friend had invited me to join his group at the Six Bells to hear a regular singer called Richard Blair. What a treat. Fab music, everyone swinging to the party tunes, people dancing.and a really great atmosphere. Smart crowd, no effing and blinding, and pretty packed. Couldn't believe I was in TW8...and no doubt it will all be happening again next Saturday.Richard Blair is indeed a star. And The Six Bells Pub has made a come back!

Fabulous singing tonight.Richard got the Lord Nelson crowd going..and they were well entertained. Singing along and some dancing.I loved the final encore... Elton John's "My Song" and those words " it's great living knowing you're in the world"Many thanks Richard. It was a treat again.

Cheers Richard. We haven't actually met..but you did offer the microphone in my direction once..but after some odd sounds from me ..you thought best to move on!! Lol.No doubt they'll be a good crowd. You do get everyone in a happy mood with your infectious singing. It's a class act.Come along folks!

Commission or bribes? No no I'd pay to go along! Honest!The previous Richard Blair bash that I had attended (at the Six Bells) was a knock out. I'd never seen so many happy Brentfordians since Tommy Lawton scored with his head in his first game at Griffin Park back in the 1950's.

They are called Sarah and Paddy, I met them the other night and they seem quite nice but I think they are just pub sitting as they said they have had a few pubs in the past but hope to be in the bells for longer this time!

Jim, I think this is actually the third set of landlords/ladies since the refurb!  Can't remember the initial chaps name, he was from the Birmingham area, then Lee, then I think the board outside yesterday when I drove past read Paddy and someone... I'll have to double check the new names tomorrow!By the way I saw this guy - http://www.youtube.com/user/SamWilloughbymusic#p/u at O'Briens last Friday and he was very good.  Lots of good local music happening still :)

Lee from The Lord Nelson was installed to sort it out and relaunch it (with the help of Richard Blair's fab evening)..and then the reins handed over to a new licensee.Richard Blair, we hear on the grapevine, is to perform locally on Christmas Eve!!Where?  Watch this space!

Its good to hear how every one enjoys the night at the new establishment catering to the local alcohol junkies.Just what Brentford needs a new place to consume one of the worlds most dangerous drugs.At least no drunken fights have taken place yet, none of the locals stabbed. Just loud drunks staggering home after filling up with the favourite poison and maybe just maybe the odd one taking the short drive home; like so many responsible 'drug' drinkers!Oh for a decent cannabis cafe filled with calm polite social people such as one finds in Holland.

"Is he really that good"?Absolutely Camilla..and I'm glad you've had good reports too.It might be an idea to get his phone number from Lee the boss at The Lord Nelson and enquire when he is available. Also tell Lee that we're waiting for a repeat night at the Six Bells too. My chum tells me that Richard Blair sings at weddings and other bashes... and I have no knowledge of other pubs featuring him... fools them!

I've heard a few people comment on Richard Blair.  Is he really that good? I need to book a singer for a family doo.  Do you know if he plays in any of the other local pubs? (The Six Bells is a bit far as we live down Challis Road)

That's good to hear. Isn't the chef called Daniel.. the one whose picture appears on the Lord Nelson website?.So there's some swopping and changing going on between the two pubs! Perhaps Lee should take over The Brewery Tap too as I understand the current landlord is planning to leave.I'm still bowled over by the great atmosphere at The Six Bells last Saturday. That Richard Blair is a knock out in my book and look forward to his appearing locally again. Maybe a monthly booking on the cards. To think that he's a part time fork-lift truck driver on the aprons at Heathrow! That's where he got his tan.. from the outdoor life at the Airport!And whilst mentioning the Brewery Tap, that's a feast for music too. Just love the trad jazz on Tuesday evenings... especially when Bob Dwyer (old school chum) appears on trombone..and Dave on drums. Magic.Brentford is brilliant!

Shame that I missed the live music on Saturday, but visited the Six Bells for the first time yesterday for lunch.  The three of us enjoyed the set lunch (2 courses for £10, 3 courses for £12.50).The food was excellent quality, very tasty, huge portions and a great price!

We had a good time too.  Use to go to the Nelson but in order to avoid 'Dim Tim', we now go to the Beehive. Would go to the Bells more often but heard that Dim Tim has followed Lee there (usually with his wife or daughter in tow)!  Heard he was out of town since Friday - hence our visit. (Last saw Dim Tim walking down the middle of  Enfield Road, then swearing & giving V signs  to a car driver who was behind him - the driver hadn't even bleeped him).  You're right Jim,  Richard Blair was indeed a real treat.
