Pre war pictures

Does anyone have any photographs of Grosvenor Road, Lateward Road or Brook Road between 1930 to 1940?Would like to see what kind of front gardens they had then, what sort of fencing. walling or railing and gates the terraced houses had.Searched the libraries and old books but nothing from round these streets...yet

If you have a picture,that would be great,as I've already searched the suggested sources extensively to no avail.  Our wall is 1960's looks horrid and we would like to put back either the original style wall and railings. There is evidence of the railings as the bases are still there.The coal hole at no 10 is still intact.

Hi there I dont have any pictures but quite a clear memory of the Grosvenor Road as my aunt lived there and I stayed there often.between1938-1950she live at no 10, the front garden was very small, had a coal grid circle right in the middle by front door,with a cellar beneath, nothing was grown, it was just cemented over and family bicycles put there .this was the same for a whole row of similar houses.they were fronted by a 3ft domed wall.If it is important I could probably find a photoregards Kay Day nee Daubney

It's always worth checking the local history collection at Chiswick Library (usually open Mondays and Fridays) and failing that the London Metropolitan Archive.

As you know, railings were removed in many places during the War for urgent recycling.On the west side of Ealing Road there are some original pre-war railings still in place because the residences (with small front gardens) have basements.  You can see these basements below the ground floor front windows..and they are on view to passers by...who, without the railings, might suffer a nasty fall.
