It is already a NO so why is Parliament voting on a Referendum!!

There is nothing that angers me more than Politicians thinking that we the people they are supposed to be representing are both stupid and thick!!! Why on earth are the Tories,Labour and Lib Dem going through the motions of voting on a referendum to come out of Europe when each of the respective party leaders have instructed their followers to vote a great big no!!!We the people have been systematically let down by each party that have been voted in, at the moment we are BROKE and yet we still have QUANGOS by the dozen that costs us at least 46 Billion Pounds per year,what good are they, our aid programme which good old David Cameron has decided to add to costs us at the moment 12.5 Billion Pounds per year add these two amounts together and we have saved us 58.5 Billion Pounds per year. With that money we can save the NHS,Schools, Libraries and support our own businesses thus ensuring unemployment going down.The whole of Parliament need to get their act together and do something constructive for we the people who are having a bloody hard time of it.

I can only speak for myself, If I had given promises and been elected by any constituency, then I would have gone to the Houses of Parliament expecting to do my best for not only them but collectively with other MP's my very best for our Nation. It is outrageous in this day and age that a FREE vote cannot be your right, that you have to adhere to Party Leaders,this is not democracy it is dictatorship. To have our rights signed away by insignificant leaders who at that time obviously didn't give a damn about the outcome or what it would mean to our Nation, I strongly object to being subjected to Brussels Rules, I want the Repatriation of Power NOW not in the future on a maybe a new treaty will be needed and idiot leaders can barter for our powers back.So those MP's from all parties should be proud because they were extremely brave to stand up and be counted as true representatives of the people.

Sounds like there is an assumption here (in the claim about brave & true MPs) that actually all MPs believe (1) a referundum would be a good thing; and (2) getting out of the EU would be even better - but they were scared to say so. Plus there is an implied criticism of any MP who voted against the referundum - they are not brave and true, so they must be the opposite.These are pretty big claims. Can you clarify or defend them?

It is ludicrous that one whole day was absolutely wasted in Parliament on a vote that only 111 brave and true MP's took their vote seriously. 1 Lib Dem braved his whip and voted as he wished not as he was told 19 Labour + 6 Dup + 79 Tories + 6 others. A very sad day for British Politics because how can we ever trust another vote that goes through the house after the comedy of yesterday.Incidentally on the Lib-Dem website until last Thursday when it was taken down they actually advocated fighting for an EU  Referendum it quite mysteriously disappeared.

was very important for us all.The Prime Minister has once again promised us a Referendum on the EU.Over 80 Conservative MP's defied a 3 line whip.About 20 Labour MP's defied a 3 line whip.Not a single Lib Dem voted in favour the Lib Dem commitment to hold a Refendum on the EU.There were some very good speeches which shows that the art of parliamentary debate is not dead.A powerful message has been sent to the EU that despite a 3 line whip there are over 111 honourable MP's in the House of Commons who strongly support a Referendum and a Conservative Party which also supports a Referendum - but at a time and on terms decided by the Party leadership and not by backbenchers.

It is shameful that two conservative MP's have had to resign their positions to enable them to vote as their principals tell them to Stewart Jackson & Adam Hollaway these two gentleman can now go back to their constituents and say quite truthfully that we did as you wanted also what we thought was the right thing to do.I have avidly watched the whole drama through the day, intermittently the box would show that this vote is not legally binding so then why could not all MP's from all parties vote as they chose and not as they are being dictated to do by their party leaders and for goodness sake why wait until 10 pm to vote.I was bitterly disappointed to learn (please correct me if I have gotten it wrong)that our powers that were eagerly given away were part of both the Maastracht & Lisbon treaty and that the repatriation of powers will only come about if in future we are required to participate in another treaty,this or another government will barter these powers back piecemeal,that good people is not what we want.I find it unbelievable that so many of our powers were given in such a free way without we the people ever being told. How on earth could any government have gotten us into this intolerable situation of being governed by Brussels. It would appear that we rely 50% of our trade on Europe(within 1 week it has gone up 10%) why can we not nurture the rest of the world it is a mighty big place, with a lot of business just there for the taking. It is wrong if true that we have become so reliant on Europe if our politicians can be believed, there was plenty of talk from both David Cameron & Ed Miliband about strengthening & growth for Europe as much concern about the UK would have been greatly appreciated.

The problem is the government's foolish pledge on epetitions, presumably intended as a vote winner. Anyone could have told them that the single-issue ranters would ensure pointless debates on our EU membership and, next no doubt, bringing back hanging.

Well! well David Cameron has at last shown a little bit of British Backbone by insisting to President Sarkozy that not only he representing the UK but the other 9 countries of the Euro zone should be in at the talks on Wednesday, it is imperative that decisions that will affect us should not be taken without his attendance.It would seem that President Sarkozy has Napoleonic Ideas he wants the 17 countries in Europe to have only one treasury obviously directed by him, that is if he again wins the next election.

Hold on a minute,"Alas the poor girl would be completely ostracized for it". What's that got to do with it?  You appear to be the consumate Tory and she is your representative her job is to echo her supporters i.e. you, so, don't make excuses email her and instruct her as to your wishes and then stop talking tripe!

My argument to this idiot vote is that it is such a disgraceful waste of time and money after all we the public are actually paying these MP's salaries,that only 10% are willing to go the whole yard and vote free is disgraceful.The whole Parliament debate is such a farce again a complete waste of our time and money, don't believe me watch it on a daily basis, nothing but nothing is ever achieved they just drone on until break time whereby they eat such delicacies you and I would never be able to afford them.

It does appear that the Conservative Party under David Cameron has joined the Eurofanatical Lib Dems and the European Socialists of the Labour Party in opposing the popular demand for a referendum on the EU supported by 61 per cent of the British electorate according to the latest BPIX poll.This is a great shame.We should all write to our local MP Mary Macleod and ask her to vote in favour of a referendum.Write to Mary.Macleod.mp@parliament.uk

100,000 people obviously do not count as far as Parliament is concerned, I have just listened to that idiot Red Ed Milliband who assures us that the government will win the vote on Europe tomorrow because he will back him, when asked about the Repatriation of Power from Brussels like David Cameron he hedged by saying that eventually a New Treaty will be discussed this is not good enough.It would seem that we are so very reliant upon Europe for growth & jobs that we cannot at this moment in time discuss vital issues concerning the same.By all means let us stay on the peripheral of Europe but take back our powers, it's such a load of nonsense that this is not feasible it can and should be done right now not in the future. This is what was promised by David Cameron and he should not fail us.

The reason is very simple.Over 100,00 people have signed a petition demanding a referendum.The Conservative,Labour and Liberal Democrat parties all promised us a referendum prior to the last General Election.The EU is now in deep crisis and the time has come to re-evaluate Britain's relationship with the EU.

It most certainly does, the broken promises that have been made by all politicians overtime is disgraceful, it would seem that once you get into power you forget that you are still a representative of the people and should do what is best for us, not make lifelong decisions for us without discussing it first.I am sick to death of hearing that it will take years to repatriate our powers back from Europe, nonsense did you agree to this no neither did I, trade with Europe by all means but as a Nation we have the right to decide our own destiny. Those idiots are going to permit Pilots to work even though they are exhausted apparently this equates to being 4 times over the limit, does it not matter that passengers lives will be at risk apparently not.

Agreed, this should get plenty of open discussion. I doubt we would vote as a nation to leave what the older ones amongst us remember as the Common Market but the present system needs some radical change to make it work.Get it out in the open (get it where you can!)
