Ming Sing closed

Noticed today that the very excellent Chinese Takeaway in Brook Road, the Ming Sing has ceased training. A further few enquiries revealed the obvious of people using take aways a little less and the parking situation making it difficult for passing trade in the evenings. But the body blow was a huge five grand hike on the rent rendering the business completely unviable.Having just read the local councillors optimistic circular on the town centre it struck me that it will be a complete white elephant if safeguards are not put into place to prevent the landlords hiking rents beyong the ability of a business to be stable and viable.Brentford won't attract the big high street names - even Ealing can't manage that . But small shops may be possible with low rents but with greed like this going on how will and side street business ever be prosperous enough to be worthwhile.Pure greed .

I am surprised to hear that this shop has a landlord.  Almost every corner house in Brook Road used to be a shop and all have reverted to private housing which always suggested to me that the shop owner was the freeholder.  This has been a chip shop all my life and has changed hands a couple of times so it's surprising to discover there is a separate landlord.  However, hate to be a dissenter but I thought the food was terrible.  The current owners have been there a few years but the quality was worse than the previous owner who had been there years and who ran it as a fish & chip/chinese.  The last takeaway I got from there went in the bin so it's no surprise to me that eventually it would cease trading particularly if there are rental issues as well.  Presumably this shop will also revert to housing?

But to find parking outside the shop is sometimes a pain.Shouldn't there be say two parking spaces (20 minute max) outside such trading shops. Should have been sorted yonks ago.

Believe it or not it can be more profitable for a corporate landlord to have empty floor or premises.All over London businesses who have even their own buildings are cramming staff into cramped conditions whilst leaving whole floors empty.It was explained to me once but it involves tax rebates, insurance rebates less obligations and can be submitted as a loss maker.All wrong but all legal.

That is bad news. The Ming Sing served really good Chinese Food with friendly service. The really bad news is that I no longer have an excuse for the occasional pint in the Griffin while waiting for my food!!!!

Large rent hikes seem to affect all the smallish high roads etc. I really do not understand why any landlord would hold out with an empty premises at a much increased rent and get nothing, rather than accept a lower rent and get something.

Very sad, Great little place and with rent greed like that probably the first of the few that remain as corner shops.If those that are in charge to not get to grips with such greed at all levels, This wonderful capitalist democracy that is alway held as such a shining example will go the way of the USSR.Greed is getting out of control and earnings of too many disproportionate.
