It didn't work ober 40year's ago with more traffic on the roads it certainly will not work now!

A little taste of Nick Clegg here, even though a new young conservative has been trying to sell us the idea of changing our BST to suit Europe.How many youngsters were knocked down because the dark lasted until well into the morning, the farmers could not cope with the loss of an early start and now next year they want to start a new 3 year trial, I can remember it still being dark at 9-45, our traffic has increased ten fold overtime.This idea will not increase growth to our economy only money being put into our industries will, leave well enough alone Ms.Harris you were to young to have experienced the dark mornings.

Er, no, you're the one who is confused, Alan, or just not understanding what I'm saying. They are an hour ahead of us, on CET, and also physically an hour ahead in their position on the globe, so that the sun rises and sets at the same time (according to the clock) as it does here. If there were really benefits to our putting our clocks forward an hour, the same would apply in Berlin.Got it? Cause I can't explain it any better.

Err, no, because Germany is further east and so the sun rises earlier for them.

I haven't got strong views either way but if it were true that an extra hour saved lives on the roads and made us all healthier, as has been somewhat implausibly claimed, then logically the sensible Germans would be advancing their clocks an hour to get the benefit too.

For once Dawn, I agree with you. I have never seen the logic of the argument about school children coming home in the dark, most schools finish earlier nowadays anyway. It's either that or going to school in the dark the other way round. Leave well alone would be my preference.
