If anyone can make a profit on Northern Rock Richard Branson can.

Well done to George Osborne for giving the go ahead on this sale, TV are making a meal of the fact that 747 Million will be paid however they say nothing of the other 253 Million to be paid over a 2 to 5 year period. Plus it means that the Northern Rock employees are hopefully safe from redundancy.Red Ed is going to investigate this sale, well blow me down a little bit of sunshine on the horizon for us and he decries it. I  have just watched him on the box the only credible thing he said was that these were hard times, I would think that is the most honest thing he has said since doing his brother out of the leadership deal.

really Dawn, you must stop mixing your subject matter up.  The impression I have fromthe sale of Northern Rock - albeit at a significant loss to the taxpayer but nevertheless saving jobs (at least for 2 years) is that Osborne made a hasty decision because he knows which way the economic wind is blowing!  And it isnt a warm, gentle, southerly

This is like the curate's egg - good in parts. The taxpayer has lost out by a lot and the toxic debts still belong to the government and hence to us. The good side is that jobs are assured for three years but I am sure Branson's the man to take on the 'big five', certainly if Virgin do the business I will happily leave Lloyds.

Not one comment on the sale good to see everyone staying focused!! I made money from Northern rock, the irony is I moved money from virgin money for a better rate of return , now it's all back in virgin money.

That's how democracy works, Dawn. If it had been a fix-up to shoo David in, then what would have been the point of Labour MPs voting? David had his chances to challenge Gordon Brown before the last election and bottled it every time.The wrong leader who doesn't stand a chance of being elected?
